Painting black bumpers the body color... (non cb7)

On my 84 Hatch, I want to have the plastic bumpers painted light blue like the rest of the car. They are black DX type covers right now, but the surface I would have painted is smooth so I think it will not look beaded and the paint should adhere. What kind of additive(s)/primers (flex agent?) should I make double sure to request? The bumpers are off the car already. I know 90% of body shops will automatically add the right catalysts so it can flex and not peel, but I had a guy not do it right one time. It peeled and was pretty much a wasted cover at that point. I want it to hold up, not just look good for 6 months, then look ghetto. I need it to be durable and shine nice cuz that's how I roll...

Peep it out here: 84 Hatch (not an LX)

You need to use BULLDOG.... It's a flex agent you put that Before primer....

If the first guy that painted your bumpers had the paint peeling off that fast, then he did something wrong with either prep work, or painting.

Before anyone should paint it needs to be cleaned and sanded down to at least 1500-2000. If the surface is clean, smooth, and free of dust the paint should stick and be flexable to a certain extent. But the only way paint will attach to the surface is with at least 2+ coats of primer (sanded inbetween coats), only if you want a really nice paint job.

How much did it cost you for the first painting?

A rough breakdown of what's needed......

        Step 1: Tack Cloth

Step 2: Wax & Grease Remover

        Step 3: BULLDOG

        Step 4: Primer

        Step 5: Base coat

        Step 6: Clear

        Step 7: Color sand

        Step 8: Buff....

If ANY ^^^ of this dosen't make sense to you, Then just pay a professional Shop to shoot the bumpers.... Most shops will warranty their work, So if It fucks up you can take it back....

The guy who jacked it up did it on another car I had. It just peeled after a few months; I figure he prepped it wrong. There was no way real way to fix it because of the way only some of the paint peeled.

I am having a small shop do these bumpers (not the same one that messed up my other bumper). This shop I will be usings really nice work-- they did the rust repair work on my CB7. They welded in patches and it looks great. I just wanted to be extra sure to let them know that I want the car done way right. I'm sure they know how to do it "right", but sometimes you have to be really specific because they assume you want to go cheap (especially when you bring the parts to them off the car). Thanks!
