cars that can run off pure ethanol

Okay so I was watching tv and I saw a ford commercial. They said that they are currently producing cars to run off of pure ethanol. I searched on google and couldn't find stuff for honda and such. Is this going to work out well? and will there be kits made by honda, toyota and such so that we as a cb7 community can also run off pure ethanol?

ford should work on making an internal cumbustion engine that can produce more than 10hp per litre, and get more than 12mpg before they go doing crazy shit with ethenol.

        there gonna blow somebody up.

Car commercials are mostly about image, and Ford is currently playing up the "we're advanced ... " routine.

Everyone is fishing around for something that produces a better combination of power, low emissions, cost, availability etc. than gasoline.

The problem is, gasoline is already the best there is for all of that. But gas has a bad image, so it gets bad press.

So what you have instead is the glorification of ONE aspect of alternative fuels such as hydrogen, while downplaying the somewhat obvious problems.

Hydrogen cars will not fix the problem with fossil fuel supplies running out. You can't just find a whole bunch of hydrogen and stick it in your car, you need GASOLINE to refine it. Electrcity is the way to go, or at least in the mean time, stop selling Tahoes, Escalades, etc.

Look at Europe, and their little tiny cars. Many americans laugh at that, but they run 50+ mpg.

. . . no you dont, you can get it from water and use metals like alluminum or magnesium(more dangerous because of the blinding light that can be produced if the reaction happens too quickly) to make an oxide, then use the hydrogen from the steam (because there would need to be heat for the oxides to form) to run the engine. not that theres any hydrogen cars running right now or anything *cough*hondafcx*cough*

Hydrogen is rather abundant, through the electrolysis of water you get 2 equivalents of hydrogen and one of oxygen and through the combustion of hydrogen you generate water. It's truly a renewable fuel!! The only issue with handling hydrogen is that it's rather explosive, I mean who what's to drive the next Hindenburg??

Hydrogen has its problems. Electrolysis requires electricity which requires energy. Hydrogen itself may be renewable, but hydrogen as a practical fuel is far from "renewable."

And that's the major problem with "alternative fuels." When you dig just one or two steps beyond the hype you learn they aren't so alternative --- some conventional energy somewhere else has to be spent in order to corral the horses.

Here's a recent article on hydrogen:
