basically you got for 15k impors
    civic
    corrolla
    elantra
    spectra
    mazda 3
    sentra
most of em suck, so if you think the civic is underpowered and have domestic phobia you are pretty much screwed. i myself like the focus of cobalt and with all that employee discount crap ford and gm are running you might find a good deal...

Ugh, not a boring corolla. You realize it has a beam rear-axle right? Its not made for sprited driving of any sort. I'd look into a Mazda3 myself. No Sentras either, same rear axle problem.

I might just do that, I just wish they'd release engine info on something other than the Si, as well as pricing.

I know i will get beat for saying this but hear me out. Buy a Hyundai Accent or Elantra. 10Kish. then goto www.SharkRacing.com buy their Stage 3 turbo kit and get 200+ hp. And talk about sleeper. And if you put say 7K into the Accent (10K) so 17K total you would easily have a 13-14 sec. sleeper.

yea right now is the best time to buy a new/used car . the reason they are doing the whole discount pricing is because they are not sellin as many cars as they would like so they will dow aht ever they can to get a car sold . i boug my wife a 03 corola s it was the certifed pre-owned and they wanted 17,500 for it with only 12k miles and i talked them down to 14,000 and they payed the sales tax so if u want to buy something do it now and jsut haggle with them tehy will come down in the price just tog et a car sold

Yeah, I'm thinking about waiting for the Toyota Days, where you save a couple thousand.

About the Hyundai's, since they have such poor craftsmanship (it's a korean car), I wouldn't trust one of their cars with a turbo kit to last over 10-20k miles.

Hyundai has awards for craftmanship. and the automotive world is saying look out honda and toyota.

                    and now for the proof....

I've have more than a few friends who have owned one hyundai or another and they said that that 10-year warranty will come in handy as the car will be in the shop at least half that time. Especially the tiburon.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but don't our cars have rear beam axles as well? Then again, our cars are over 10 years old. The corrolla, on the other hand, is new and should probably have the IRS. Is that what you were trying to say NutBucket?

I don't really care what axle is in it, I'm not going to be doing much "spirited" driving. I just need a car that is inexpensive to maintain, has very good gas milage, and something with very good reliability.

So even though the Corolla may be boring to some of y'all standards, it would be perfect for me, functional and not too bad to drive or to look at.

Check for yourself. I believe even 3rd gen Accord had IRS. No, I'm not kidding. I remember reading a Toyota press release a few years ago that said that they went back to a beam axle on Corollas because the difference in handling wasn't an issue for most buyers and it was cheaper to produce. Nissan has been using beam axles a LONG time. Up until the current generation of Maximas they had beam axles as well. Sentras have always had them.

                          EDIT: From Toyota's Website

                          EDIT 2: From Nissan's website

EDIT 3: Final Evidence: Accord got 4-wheel independent suspension in 1986

I stand corrected and retract my earlier statement about our cars having beam rear-ends. I just looked underneath my car and sure enough, IRS. Thanks nutbucket!!!

What's the difference between beam and IRS? In fact, what are Beam and IRS axles?

And if you don't care that much about "spirited" driving, I say get a Civic. They are good on gas. The new models don't really appeal to me because of the way it looks

IRS means left and right wheels move independently of each other. beam axles are like truck axkes, left and right wheel are connected by a solid beam.
