    F23 identity?

Hey guys I have an f23 vtec in my 97 ce1. I know there are a1 a4 and a5 models. My question is how can I tell if I have an a1? The engine only has the f23a stamp on it. Also I know that the a1 has a higher compression ratio. Should I use premium petrol in my ce1? The compression ratio for the a1 &a4 is 9.3:1

I have ce1 gauge and the f23 is from a 98-02 accord. But again I am still stumped on which engine I have. The engine code only says f23a, there is no number after the a. Wouthis be a jdm engine?

Same specs as the US F23A1 , just the JDM uses different ECU tune & Valve cover.

Ok one more question? Should I be using the jdm ecu? If so how do I tell difference between usdm and jdm ecu's?

The USDM F23A1 ECU should work just fine.
And to my knowledge, no F23A ever required anything more than 87 octane.

i was wonderin about the ecu and tuning of the jdm ecu. i wave a slight knock when its cold so i was wondering if that might solve my problem.

slight knock is a bad thing either way.its prob a bad rod bearing.if you try to change them now you might get away with it befor it screws the crank.change the main bearings and thrust washers while ur down there.
