V-Dub guys Chime in! Mk2 questions.

So my uncle told me today that his friend is selling a 1985(he thinks) Volkswagen Rabbit/Cabriolet. Its convertible, white with white rag top. Completely stock with 130k miles on it. 5 speed. The guy says the car runs good for a while but if he drives it for more than 2 hours or so and once the engine warms up the car turns off on him. Kind of weird right?? I was on some vw forum today to do some research on that to see if it was a common thing with these cars and did find several threads about it but nobody had responded to them..? Idk why but i feel like its a easy fix. My sisters Acura used to do this same thing and after some research i found that all it needed was a Thermostat and a coolant flush/bleed. OOHHHH almost forgot to mention, my unc said the dude would probably let it go for like 500-700. Score?? I dont know much, other than what i learned today about VW's. Ive read reviews and most people that own one like it. But thats maybe bc they hate jap cars and cant afford a bimmer(Most never hesitate to mention they would rather spend half their life fixing their volkswagen than driving a honda)
So yeahh, what do you guys think, Good or bad deal?? I mean its 500-700 for a running car with low mileage..? Any comments or concerns are greatly appreciated

Everyone I know with a VW spends every other weekend fixing it. In fact a friend of mine just texted me today asking if I can look at the 2002 Golf she just bought, apparently its dead. She bought it a month ago and I haven't even seen it yet because its been in and out of the shop. lol
