Hope no one has posted something about this, but even if they have Meh just ignore it.
Honda City Turbo II (1985)
The first generation City which appeared in Japan was Honda's attempt to capture a new youth market. Unprecedented in concept, the City's tall cabin was unique in those days, as well as many of its innovations, among them a turbocharged 1200cc engine.
1985 intorduced a Turbo II with higher boost and the famous BULLDOG fender flares (pictured) went on sale. It was Japan's #1 hit 1.0L class car for two years.
Like the Isuzu ASKA, it too featured an innovative transmission as well. The HYPERSHIFT 8 Speed manual was operated much like a standard manual transmission with 4 speeds. However the differential gear had an electronic 2 speed final drive which shifted up and down depending on the accelearation and throttle position. This system made the tiny 90hp car fairly zippy and similar cars and systems became mimiced by Mitsubishi as well as Suzuki.
Also notable was the optional folding motor scooter called the MOTOCOMPO. This scooter, gas powered street legal bike, would fold and was designed to fit perfectly into the City's tiny trunk area.
The ruckus of the 80'2 LOL
Later the flared Turbo II look was used for a base of another iteration of CITY... The Cabriolet which came in 12 Pastel colors. Expensive for its class, it still became popular icon of the 80's small car segment.
