I've had the opportunity to drive/ride in some cool cars recently....just my 2cents for those who are interested
If you have any cool car experiences that don't deserve their own thread...post up
2008 Honda Civic Si Sedan:
- My friend bought this car new in 2008. I've had the chance to drive it multiple times, it's definitely a fun car to drive around town. Driving position is excellent and it handles really well, it's a very easy car to use day to day. Interior ergonomics are top notch. Sticky tires and stiff suspension make it extremely nimble on the street. It's a very practical car that wont break your wallet will ripping through the gears.
You have to really beat on the K20z3 to feel it's power. Compared to the GTI, I prefer the GTI's usable power band. The only time I could actually feel the full power from the K20 was on the highway. With a red line of 8,000 rpms, it sounds great when VTEC kicks in but lacks in the oomph that the GTI possesses.
The SI feels quite fragile to. The mechanics of the SI feel very light, it doesn't have that confident feeling when engaging gears.
2003 Acura NSX:
- I recently got the chance to drive/ride in a 2003 NSX. Being my dream car since childhood, this experience fueled my need to own one in the future.
Being familiar with Honda's and Acura's, the NSX doesn't feel alienated from it's siblings. It seems to take every good aspect from all Honda models and incorporates them beautifully. In pictures, design cues make the NSX seem long, but being a couple inches longer than the S2000 the NSX is quite small. Great interior qualities make the driving experience your main focus. The transmission feels very light but solid and confident when shifting, everything is exact and precise. Power delivery is outstanding, it's the kind of power that shoves you back in your seat. It's unbelievable that horse power is under 300, because the experience is unreal!
Apart from the amazing performance, the NSX is very usable day to day. The trunk is big enough for groceries and storage believe it or not, lol.
2009 BMW M3 sedan:
- This was one of those eye opening moments with me. I have never thought about owning an BMW but the M3 drive changed all that. This car seems like it can do everything. You can pick up the kids from soccer practice, haul wood from Lowe's and comfortably hit 140 on the highway, lol. In short, it's an amazing car.
The exterior is extremely aggressive and the interior is extremely subtle and refined. I almost forgot what I was driving when I took the M3 out, the interior is very comfortable and quiet. The engine/transmission mechanics are extremely solid. Everything feels precision made, the clutch is very short, as well as the shifting.
Maybe because the M3 feels heavy, that ear to ear grin just doesn't show up. Chirping through 2nd and 3rd gear, before you know it you've accelerated to 100 mph. Even with the 450 bhp available, the NSX with it's mere 290 bhp feels 2x faster. But if your looking for a "do everything" car, this is definitely a great choice.
2008 Ferrari Challenge F430:
- Being driven around Road America by Anthony Lazzaro in the full race F430 was spine tingling. Climbing through the roll cage and into the passenger seat of the Ferrari Challenge F430 was surreal. As we rocketed out of the pits and hitting speeds in excess of 160 mph, I was sure I was going to die. Talking to Anthony through my helmet mic, he told me "...it's not how fast your car accelerates, it's how fast you can brake..." Soon after hitting 180 mph on the back straight, he slams on the brakes just short of full lock up.
After climbing out of the car, my entire body was shaking with adrenaline. I have never felt anything like that before.
