We have 2 7th gen V6's with no tranny problems. Make sure you keep the fluid changed though.

As for MPG, we routinely get well over 30MPG on the highway. I have seen as high as 36MPG, but 33-34 is more normal, and that is NOT babying it or driving like a granny. That is at 80-85MPH steady state with occasionally higher speeds to pass, and often through terrain it will still average slightly over 30 MPG.
