2009 Sand Rail dune buggy - street legal high performance

I found a company here in Hutchinson Kansas that makes street legal sand rail dune buggies with 1.8L vw motors and transaxles, and they can even custom-make them to your specs. They have one waiting for a home that's powered by a GM 3.8L supercharged V6 that is a holy spitfire in an off-road or rally race. Pricetag? About $20,000. Street legal sand rail dune buggies start around $10,000 and come standard with a 1.8L vw motor and transaxle, but nothing is preventing someone from dropping a turbo B18C or K20A in those beasts...Or even an H22A for that matter. That would be a sight to see at any drag strip - a street legal sand rail dune buggy weighing in at 1,500lbs dry powered by an 800whp turbo H22A...Alternately, if you could talk the company into making one that weighs less than 1,000lbs, you could drop a bone stock and healthy F22A in it and use the F22A's torque to rack up plenty of kill stories.

Here's the pic of the V6-powered buggy that's waiting for a home:

And here's a pic of the motor:

And here it is in action:

Here's one of a 2.2L street legal buggy waiting for a home - this baby can go from road to dirt without missing a beat:

This guy is powered by a 2275cc air-cooled dual-carb VW motor and transaxle. In a full-body 1957 VW bug, this 211hp beast will propel the VW through the quarter mile in 11.9 seconds. Out of the box, you should expect low 11's in the quarter with no mods on this dune buggy. Expect to pay around $15,000 for this bad boy.

Note: This bad boy can romp with Nissan GT-Rs all day long and not complain even once.

    Interesting.

I'm still at a loss as to how those weight 1000+ lbs.

A CRX weighs close to 1500 I thought. It has a body, an interior, etc...

Yeah, but a CRX is made mostly of aluminum. These are a much stronger steel, which adds weight. Those roll cages aren't as light as you think they are. Still, though, if you want raw speed, go with one of these bad boys.

Put that L67 in a 900lb dune buggy...THAT would be a serious win

I think Kansas must have more lenient laws on the matter. Here's a real sand rail:

I'll give you a hint as to what's in the back....it had red plastic covers over the valve covers and produces over 400hp in stock form.
