but i doubt that about the chopper tho. max a police chopper could do is like 150 maybe. but by the time it gets to that speed ill be at my house and have the car covered and in the garage

You will never outrun the radio, and it is stupid to try. Also, the average helicopter will be able to not only run with you, but from a higher altitude they have a visual range of several miles, which you do not. They simply make a call to cars to head you off, and guess what? You are done. Many precincts also have airplanes that are faster than the helicopters. You better plan on topping 200+ MPH for long distances if you even think you are going to CONSIDER outrunning an aircraft.

Radio waves travel at the speed of light. You are nowhere close.

That scene in Gone in 60 Seconds is not only fake, it is nowhere near accurate.

This is old technology. They are now running 2.4L V8's that are capable of over 20K RPM, although they are now limited to 19K. They have also halted all engine development.

Oddly, they are at the limits of reciprocating gas engine power production, because if they start turning the engines any faster, they airflow will have to go supersonic to keep up.

Of course, they are being limited, so the 2.4L engines could be capable of producing 800HP or more, which, oh-by-the-way, works out to about 313HP/liter for the current 750HP limited versions. NA. No boost.

Also, interestingly, notice that the aero packages on these cars don't kick in until about 70MPH, which is why your average wing on your average family car does nothing. These cars are essentially built to "fly" toward the ground and they can't do anything till 70MPH.

** EDIT, I forgot to mention that these engines also run on what amounts to pump gas.

they run on pump gas? I thought F1's all used "race fuel" i.e. like alcohol.

Do you know what kind of octane rating they have?

Heard a rumor long ago that they would be going camless...using solenoids to operate the valves...any word on that?

I was curious about this being a v10 cause I thought they were using v8's...I also remember the literage being itty bitty...but damn they rev!

There is some discussion about the fuel in those posts.

And the V10's were phased out after 2006.

Yes, it's "pump gas". It sure doesn't smell like the stuff I use when they rip past.
