Viper ACR faster than ZR1 and GT-R

Well, doing what seems to be the "cool" thing to do latey, the Viper ACR has set a new 'Ring' record at 7:22, beating the GTR by a full 7 seconds.

Uh oh. Let's see how all the Nissan fanboys justify this one...

*edit* Just watched the video. I have never been a big Viper fan, but you have to admire the sheer brutality with which it goes about its job. It pops, snorts, bangs, crashes, and just generally sounds like a race car, which it pretty much is.

Look at it. Its two steps away from being a race car. Is this a surprise?

              /end.

Now that I have watched the video, I'm fairly certain that car could have done better. Much better. They really need to get a better gearbox and better gearing.

At the end of the day its a street legal race car. Ugly, loud, brutal, fast. Is it fast round a track? Definitely. Is it a joy to drive every day? Probably not. Its pretty cool, but if I were spending that kind of money on a car, it wouldnt be this.

It is highly unlikely the VSPEC is going to shave 4 seconds off of its time. Besides, wouldn't it suck if the NSX replacement was faster than that?

Plus, there was probably a few more seconds in that car just for the time he spend bouncing off of the limiter in the middle of straights. At 1:22.1 I could definitely see a sub 1:20 or thereabouts. That would mean the GTR spec V would need to shave over 7 seconds off of its time. Not as easy as it sounds.

No offense or anything, but the GTR isn't exactly a Cadillac on the road either. In fact, it is apparently quite punishing. Besides, the fact remains that I can walk into a dealer and buy either car stock.

kinda cool how you can see the shifter assembly twisting from the torque as he accelerates/lets off

The uglier it is = the faster.

You can also tell how he had to manhandle it into 3rd gear.

Interestingly, this car looked a LOT more stable than the ZR-1 on its record run. Of course, there may have been wet parts with the ZR-1.

For a modern day super car, the GTR definitely aint no Lexus. But all things considered its actually quite a pleasant place to be while rocketing down a freeway. It is what it is. I'd rather drive it every day than either of my Toyota's or Honda
