If crushing speed were the only thing that mattered vipers would be higher up on the totem pole and would not be mocked for the overpriced 80k pieces of shit that they are. If I remember correctly it was also the fastest car in the slalom and really what is the big suprise here? Shouldn't a car with 4 extra cylinders that weighs LESS and has 120 more hp be faster by all means? Lets look at what it takes to dethrone a GTR. End discussion.
I can walk into a dealer and buy it. It wasn't on full race slicks, and it IS street legal. It might be more hardcore than the GT-R, but it isn't a full on race car. It doesn't even have a cage.
Besides, it is a much harder car to drive, as Nissan hasn't really proven anything other than the fact that computers can drive a 4,000lb car for you. Sorry, if I wanted a computer simulation, I would go play GT4.
I also find it odd how that if the GT-R is dominating, then suddenly the 'Ring IS the end all be all of courses, but as soon as it is displaced, that is not longer the case. Faster is faster, and the truth is that 5 seconds with a margin for improvement is a LOT faster, not just a little bit.
LOL! I called the BS excuses in post #1.

Yea the ACR is just a factory race version of the viper but its still street legal. Its just like an RS model for a porsche or for you nissan fans the vspec. Unfortunately this might be the last year for the viper. Damn it need to get my hands on a GTS soon lol.

Hurt my feelings why dont you.Not very nice. You can make a dragster street *legal *but it would still be a race machine. I think you know a full on race ready R35 would give the acr a serious run for its money. If it'll obliterate the gtr like you say then it pretty much owns japan. Oh no................that means Honda too. Man I sure hope this viper is faster, its only.... ^^see my last post^^.I cant believe you are exicted about a Dodge. God you hate nissan.Last edited by Fake Thug; 08-30-2008, 06:52 AM.

I hate Dodge, but faster is faster, and the truth is that this car IS factory built, and it IS street legal and it IS a production car to a large degree. It might be more track oriented than a stock Viper, but it is really no different than a Vspec Nissan, which is supposed to be pretty much the same thing. A stock Viper is pretty hardcore, so obviously any "racing" or "performance" packages are going to be even more hardcore. Same with a Nissan. And yes, to some degree I could make a dragster street legal, however, this car is certified, has a warranty, passes emmissions etc. In fact, it meets the same basic standards that your GTR does.
I actually like the GTR, I am just not some fanboy that suckles on its nuts because it is a Nissan. It is too big, it is WAY too heavy (it weighs as much or more than TL for Christ's sake), and it isn't the fastest thing or best thing on the road. The ONLY reason it achieves what it does is because of computer control. It isn't a marvel of engineering. It broke no new ground, it has no new materials, and it didn't advance any field or technology very far, if at all. No, it is merely a marvel of computer programming. And really big tires. It is surely capable of a lot of cool things, and it is certainly fast. I even think it looks cool (although it is HUGE in person, compared to what you would expect), but for me, it isn't the kind of thing that keeps me up at night, dreaming.
Don't feel bad though, I lust after a car that runs a mere 7:56 at the ring, and I will lust after it much harder and long after even the new NSX debuts. Why? It is a REAL sports car. It doesn't have fancy computers, brute force power, or super huge sticky tires. Merely, minimalist, intelligent design that wrings more from less and the total equals far more than the sum of its parts.
I like the GT-R, I like the next NSX, I like the Vette, I don't really care for the Viper even though it is fast, but to me, they are all going the wrong direction. Well, the Viper and Vette are pure by today's standards, but I never really preferred the crude bludgeon/brute force method of performance.
Honda got beat at the numbers game before they even started, so don't think that this car makes me cry as a Honda fan, because unlike most, I am turned on more by intangibles and details than numbers. That is WHY I am a Honda fan. They have it where it counts. I would rather have a raw, visceral, screaming maniacal creation of metal and mechanical fury, where you can feel what is going on. The kind of car that can shock the wind out of you at low speeds as well as really fast speeds, more than I like a car that is somewhat sterile, albeit capable.
That is why I lust after Ferraris and other exotics.Last edited by owequitit; 08-30-2008, 01:21 PM.

hmmm so lets review the facts, when you are at the super market do you compare apples to apples or apples to oranges?!. this "title" that the viper has claimed is of a near totally different class as the GTR. the ACR has SERIOUS aero, most likely a full underbody tray, possibly no AC or NAV, 4 cylinders more, 2 seats less, one GIANT wing more, and 100 HP more than the GTR. and how much does one of those male enhancement pills cost anyway? 100k or more? i dunno. i am no nissan fanboy BTW, secondly... that thing needs a longer final drive and a driver that knows the difference between 3rd and 5th LOL dude went 2nd to 5th twice bwwwaaaAAAAHHHH mm bluhhhhhh **SHIT!!/FAIL!!** mm BWAHHHH **WOOHOO** HAHAHAHA goes to show you dont need alot of brains to have alot of money or access to "da ring"...this thread= uberfail to me. there may be closer comparison to the zr1 but bringing the GTR is like a knife to a gun fight with less cylinders less power and more weight right???

to be honest if i were to spend 100g+ on a car it'd have to be the porsche gt3rs.... sure it may be a bit slower, but i'm never goin on the "ring" or anywhere where it would really matter. and i'm sure anybody i meet with a viper i'll at least be able to keep up, or out run if its an older one. and a gt3 won't beat the shit out of you either.... a viper it almost too brutal to be driven on public roads, especially this ACR. idk, the gt3 (well, all porsches for that matter) have always seemed to be a good compromise between race car and DD.

The GTR was topdog around the ring and it took two top of the line ultimate model brutes to knock it down. Thats what I mean't by dethrone. I'm sorry that it went over your head.
Other than the FACT that the the vette outsells and outperforms the viper in 'some' areas lets take a lookse at a few opinions that might matter to someone.

Honestly for the price difference there is no reason that the viper shouldn't completely obliterate the vette in everything. Surely the top notch dodge parts cannot cost that much more.
Quality, speed, handling, finesse, technology, looks, practicality, etc. With a ferrari it makes sense after I looked at **everything**. Oqi was right about that and I now agree with him. Now convince me that the viper is justified in its price.

I'm winded. You should google instead of catching feelings. Pay CLOSE attention to what the guy from 5th gear said about that overpiced piece of shit.
Shyt for giggles I think we should do a cb7 poll on vette vs viper topic.

^wow..look at that. I found one website that agrees and disagrees with my point of view.Last edited by Fake Thug; 08-31-2008, 10:00 PM.
