my biggest concern for the previous sti's is the tranny problems ... that being said the new 08 sti has supposedly had this problem addressed and fixed

but anyway about it I am an EVO fan aside from the newest one which just doesnt do it for me looks wise

STi didn't have transmission issues, the WRX did.

It's mainly when you beat on them and put more than stock power levels through them.

Of course, launching on an AWD car is going to be rough on ANY transmission.

In a straight line, typically the STi will edge out the Evo. The Evo is a better handling car though.

thanks for correcting me on that ... I have only know one person with the WRX and he had it modded to hell and went through 4 trannies in a mater of a year

                Overall I'd rather have a 06 STI.

But, for the 08's I'd rather have the Evo.

There's a hell of a difference between the two cars. You can't even compare them.

my htoughts precisely.....had I ever had the choice while owning my cb between the cb and an sti itd take all of about 2 seconds to decide....and most of that time would be debating how much i could get for the cb

Sure...you could turbo ANY car and make it fast. It's not the same though.

(Talking about the EVO VIII and IX, and the MY04-MY07 STi's)

Having driven both, in stock and modded forms, ...its a tough decision...very tough

Out of the box, I would have to say I like the STi better. Interior detail is far better than the EVO to me.

Modding them makes the choice even tougher. The 4g63 is just simply a cost effective platform to mod. One of the best I4 blocks around, relatively cheap mods gets you excellent results, and easy to work on. Throw on a set of cams, turbo back and a boost controller with a FMIC and you got a low to mid 12 sec car that is VERY streetable. One thing I do not like about the EVO's is the clutch issue. I've seen far too many evo's go down for a clutch within 20K on the chassis. Start getting even faster and transfer cases and trannys start coming into play from what i hear.

With the STi you can get the same results, with better TQ making it a extremely fun street ride. Engine is a tad bit harder to work on, but it is so stout. Even the STi tranny is a beast in itself; Far better than the EVO. Plus NOTHING beats the exhaust note of an unequal header'd Boxer motor.

Endless oppurtunities with both platforms, each having their own weaknesses. I think it comes down to personal preference, and both platforms are damn near equal at the dealer.

Too tough for me to choose

                                WRX STi no doubt.
