really? sweet! Do you think you could really get a GTR from Canada? If you can, I'm coming to you!

Getting it is only the first step, though... legalizing it could be even more difficult.

If a car can be registered in canada why can't it be done in America. I dont see how if u can't register a canadian car in america, why can a canadian car be driven through america?

Also i worked at General motors they make the Sky in it made the same way in america and in canada.

A Canadian car, registered in Canada, isn't subject to US regulations... I suppose it is odd that they can be driven here, but still... can't be registered.

The Skyline is a Japanese car, considerably different from North American models. It's not a Canadian car, just allowed in Canada. Remember, as much as Canadians seem like Americans, they're not. Canada is another country, with totally different laws and regulations! (freakin weirdo Canadians and their lax laws... BAH! I say!)

Skylines CAN be registered in America. You just need to crash one to provide the crash test data, then modify the car to meet US safety and emissions requirements. That is VERY expensive. Motorex crashed an R33, and used the data for the R32 and R34... which aren't really the same. Once that was discovered, the R32 and R34 are no longer able to be imported... until someone wrecks one for testing. They also have to be modified to conform, which takes a good deal of work. Supposedly, Motorex patented a stupid little part that is used for that modification. Now those guys are in jail (I think for something unrelated to their Skyline shadiness though)

But the Skyline doesn't bore me I've seen 3 in my lifetime! 1 and highway speed, going the other way, and 2 at HIN, in the dark... one was poorly riced. I want one so bad.

the guy in the complex next to my apt building has a gts-t, ever day he goes to the corner store across the street from my apt. and just lets her idle...she has a puurrdy rumble...and my gf even had a skyline lol...so common hahaha

Skylines are ***. Torqueless pieces of crap that like to throw rod bearings after being rev'd to 8 grand consistantly over 3 months....

The only problem I see with having one as a daily driver is that the common wear and tear parts are probably hard to come by.

I would love to own a model from 89-93 though.

Actually found some information on how to import one here.

                          Google rocks.

It seems only the 1996-98 Skylines r33, GTS and GTR are only ones available for importation and that a company down in MD is able to do the required modifications to make the car legal in the States and I quote:

(The import eligibility number is to be entered on the HS-7 Declaration form that is to be given to Customs at the time of entry, and alerts Customs that the vehicle may be lawfully imported by an RI or by a person who has a contract with an RI, even though the vehicle is not certified by its manufacturer as complying with all applicable FMVSS.)

Speaking of TSA I usually have to have the documents which certify is the freight and or cargo is safe to move across the world especially by plane. Without that the car wont go anywhere.

I saw a couple R34's in AZ. A company called Motorex imports them and makes them US certified. It probably costs a lot though.

The GT-R has all the nifty goodies. The GTS-T, GTS, and lower models don't.

And Motorex is out of business... has been for quite some time now. Why their website is still up, I don't know. The owner went to jail (fraud, assault, kidnapping)... and thanks to Motorex, it's more difficult for us to import Skylines.
1.) They crashed an R33, and used that data to import R32s and R34s. The R33 was less popular, so they wrecked the one that nobody wanted. The others are NOT the same. The government caught on.
2.) They supposedly developed a part needed to make the Skyline US legal... and patented it. If that design is copied, they can sue. I just recently read this, and I'm not sure how true it is.
