Windows Vista Comm Port settings... how the hell do I find this?

Ok, Vista is a pain in my man-parts. I'm trying to get my laptop set up to run FreeLog or ECUControl. The programs run, but they aren't finding my Hulog (thanks again for that, Pat!) It worked with my old win2k setup, so I KNOW the device is set up properly...

I've narrowed it down to improper comm port settings, but I can't figure out how to change them with this computer! I found a few online instructions for Vista, but the things the instructions say to look for aren't there!

So, I'm probably missing something stupid... but if anyone can help me out, I'd appreciate it!

Hell is on primetime TV... it's good enough for me!

And there's no way I'm calling India to have someone fail to explain how to do that to me!

I don't think freelog is able to be used with vista. ECUcontrol has even less of a chance.

Do yourself a favor and upgrade to xp.

              Yeah, I've been told that

I have the programs running just fine... just won't connect. I'm guessing there are no com port settings with vista? It's a fairly outdated system, isn't it? I dunno... I'm no good with this stuff!

                Windows 2000 FTW!

Sorry Deev....I already know to stay away from Vista, and XP is gonna take some time getting used to. I hate upgrading, but eventually im gonna have to do it.

This might be out there, but did you try re-booting the whoel thing...??

I tried a few fixes found on pgmfi.org. FreeLog DOES work on Vista. People are doing it. I did a few things, but as soon as I hooked it up, the battery quit on me. I didn't get a chance to mess with it after that... We'll see what tomorrow brings.

Yeah, Vista sucks, but it's a brand new computer, with stuff that I paid a lot of money for... I'm not erasing everything on it just to put XP on there. As crappy as Vista is, it's good for other things that I use the computer for... like work (when I have work, that is).

Make sure the BOIS settings for the laptop have compatible featues and KEY features for vista. I found that to be a problem when using older mobo's and NTFS workstations that were meant for WIN 95. Also, check the com port settings for your device in the device manager, set it to the appropriate port you need, and you should be good to go.

That's what I wasn't able to find... I can't find any com port settings in the device manager. I found it in XP and 2k, but not Vista. The laptop is a brand new Acer Aspire... 1.7ghz dual core AMD processor... definitely not an older machine! I bought it new with Vista on it (wouldn't have installed that horrid software myself... but since it came with it, I don't want to remove the program that I paid for!)

There should be com port settings. I was able to find them... I just don't remember how.
I used vista to tune ONCE, and my ostrich wouldn't cooperate so smashed up the laptop and fed it to my dogs.

Dammit... hopefully the newer ostrich will cooperate when i finally get one! I don't know when that will be, but after seeing MRX use his, I really don't want to be bothered with burning, installing, driving, logging, uninstalling, burning, installing, driving, logging... The ostrich made it so quick... drive, log, tweak, upload (he never did it live), drive, log...
