    big fish

This week's news in Longview, Washington.
So much for swimming in the ocean around here! Ocean
Shores is on thenorth side of Gray's Harbor...just north of here.

While the ocean vessel 'Dawn Raider' was commercial fishing for dogfish,
this Great White was hooked in the mouth but only resisted slightly for
15 minutes before it came up alongside the boat to have a look; long enough
for one of the crew members to slip a rope around it's tail!!!
And that's when it the hit the fan!!!

The Shark took off towing the 42-foot fishing boat backwards through the
water at about7 knots. Just like in "JAWS," the boat was taking on water over
the stern, and the crew watched in horror as the shark would actually jump
completely out of the water at times. This went on for an hour before the shark
finally drowned. She weighed in at 1,035 lbs. It is suspected she followed a weak
El Nino current into local waters in search of food. Although mid-60-degree
water is considered ideal for these sharks, the larger ones can tolerate water
    in the low 50s.

Ocean Shores, Washington, is just an hour or so from Longview, Washington.
Longview is north of Portland, 45 miles. Normally we don't see these little fish
up here. Wanna take a swim?

          that's bullshit. a shark towing a 45' fishing boat isn't happening.
....and on the 7th day, deevergote rested and called his mom.

maybe they weren't trying to over power it, then it be easy to drag. but if they dont swim they drown w/o water flowin thru the gills. thats if i remember discoverys shark week right, lol

thats what I want to know

Sharks have to continuously move around to maintain buoyancy. If they stop, they will sink.

Not sure about water passing thru their gills though.

                  Sashimi anyone?

Lack of oxygen, yes even the undersea creature needs them.

To a fish, water is necessary to breathe... just like air is to us.

If it was still swimming, I wonder how it died...

Regardless, that kinda sucks. My question is... why the hell did some dipshit rope it? "hyuck hyuck! Big fishy! I'm gunna catch it I am!"

they probably had a tug o war w/ it and stopped it long enough to "drown" it.

also brings up the question if it were say an even more so rare animal(per say dolphin/whale) not they frequent those waters, but neither does a great white. What would they have done?!

Due to the struggle(as explained in the story), I would be more apt to think it was "slowed down" (exhausted) and couldn't keep moving fast enough and the water current wasn't strong enough to pass enough water through it's gills for it to extract oxygen to breath, there for "drowning".

I mean the shark will swim in any direction it can to get away, it was probably just too tired.
