I think the "-americans" suffix can only apply to those who are born in America. It is an effective means of identifying one's ethnicity while still acknowledging the fact that one IS an American. Those individuals that are from somewhere else will always be just that, from somewhere else.

I feel like "-americans" can only be those who are born here

I think it's coo that we all diff. ethnicities, but we all have one thing in common, the love for our cb7's. That's tite right thurr. I read through just about every post, and I saw lots of asians and mutts or mixes, but no Native-indians (not sure if that's pc). Hmmm. Wonder whats the deal w/that.

I get the "so, what are you?" a lot. don't mind it so much anymore, but it's annoying when it comes out of the blue and your like wtf? wtf are you?

I get the "oh you're fill in the blank with anything and everything." I've heard it all. No one has ever guessed correctly what I am within the first 3 tries and no hints.

I was born and raised in Memphis, and am still living in Memphis, TN.
              -1/2 Chinese (mom)
-1/2 Indian (as in the country India) (dad)

My parents came to the states back in the early 70's. And nope, I can't speak, read, or understand Cantonese or Gujerati. Most of my mom's side of the family moved to Memphis like 15 years ago and so whenever we have big family dinners the old farts usually talk in Cantonese and me and my dad don't know what the hell is going on. Thankfully, they all know English except for my grandmother. Sucks that I can't even talk or understand my grandmother. I guess the parents didn't want to confuse me more than I was when I was growing up.

I am Brazilian because I lived all my life here.

no, wait. I was born in Bethlehem, PA when my parents were living there so I think I am American.

no, no, one of my granp. is German so I think I am also German.
but the other granp. is Portuguese so... a little olive oil.
and my grandm. was Italian so put some peperoni also.

well, I give up. What a crazy tasting pizza this is.

                Regards,
