So, I know a lot of people call my car a sleeper, and that sleepers generally do not look like anything is done to them motor wise and that they retain a clean, mostly stock appearance.
This is because cars that look like race cars are assumed to be fast, and oem looking cars are not.
Now.
If it becomes the case that there are more cars that look oem but are fast than there cars that look fast but are not, doesn't the definition of what a sleeper is change?
I mean really, when was the last time you saw a riced out civic and thought to yourself, man, I bet that things fast!
The answer is...
You dont, no one does.
Would you be more surprised to be beaten by a clean car lowered on some nice rims, or a Fast and Furious style accord?
I honestly would be like WTF if some riced out teg destroyed me as opposed to a nicely modified teg did.
So, the question remains, what is a sleeper then and when does the overall perception change of what a sleeper is? Is it the bordeaux red cb7 with a blacked out fmic, or the bondo'd and 3 color primered civic you see that looks to have a fmic on it, but you assume its just a fmic style cai?
I say the riced civic is the sleeper, assuming it has the engine mods to backup the "racer" style appearance.
The problem is of course, these things are more rare than a fast, stock looking car, but then again, that just goes to support what I'm saying.
Sorry for the rant and the rambling, but it's something I have thought about many a time.
