The US Government should equip every municipality with a helicopter. They could even use old Vietnam surplus Hueys for dirt cheap. Each chopper gets a sniper with a high powered rifle.

If you run, and they catch you, you get shot dead. Then we don't have worry about the cops needing to chase in high speed pursuits. And I bet $10 that within 1 year 90+% of all high speed chases cease to be. Why? Because dead people can't run, and those who are still alive will usually think twice about it.

Overall, a few people would have to sacrifice themselves, but long term, fewer good lives would be lost.

I like that solution a lot better. Helps keep the gene pool in check too.
X2. Take the ticket like a man or the gene pool gets a little chlorine. It also has the benefit of saving the taxpayer money and reducing the number of lawyers in the country. Hard to defend somebody if he's dead.

some one higher up must not like that cop...seems to me they always say that by taveling high speed in traffic you are endangering lives willingly and that gives them the right to chase you...the law is funny...sometime the cops get away with crap...sometimes they get screwed...well...hardly they get screwed.

So...I'm not clear here on what happened...I get that the cop was chasing him...but why? They said that he didn't do anything to give the officer cause to initiate a high speed chase...but...I'm confused here I guess...why did the cop start the chase? Was the biker speeding?

I can see that the cop should have gone after him cool...but...I don't get it

that girl said it, the areas laws said that a persuit is only initiated if the perpetrator was involved in a hit and run or vehicular manslaughter. the office knows this, and still gave chase. He was probably was on a power trip, when he should've just given it to a bird....

bla bla bla. Even if he is wrong, he shouldnt spend 20 years in jail. Its tragic, true. Was he right? probably not.

Well. I'll rephrase. We dont know enough information.
Was he a rookie? was he a sgt?
was he ever in trouble before?
              drunk/drugs? never know.

These are all part of this case. If he was a rookie, come on, give him a break. If he was a trouble making drug addict sgt cop... well, lock him up, no brainer.
This is tragic, as I said. I'm also not saying the potential rookie should be let off. But 20 years? No, thats not right.

Nore is letting the biker off. IMO, they should split the sentence between the cop and biker.

one of my buddies have a R1 and he used to pull up to a cop, laugh at him and just preceed to leave him in the dust. cop never bother to chase him.

another buddy used to be a ex cop told me a story he chased a biker and knew the area good. came up on a turn doin over a 100 and my friend slowed down cuz he knew about the turn. biker guy overshot it and lets say he never lived to hit the ground

give them time...they will most likely prosecute the biker for fleeing the scene of an accident...and speeding

Ive seen a police trainning school at the track, it scared the shit out of me to think they are the ones with the "right" to break the laws on our roads.

chasing a bike in a car is bad judgement for this reason alone... the bike would have never caused the damage a police crusier would, not to mention the flashing lights and sounds that probably helped cause the accident more than anything. *some people react like retarted cattle to police lights*

                          Zing!

Police enforce the law. They follow a protocol whilst doing so. If they do not follow protocol, they can still break the law.
