I had Mcafee, now im running Avast and sometimes it finds shit either in normal boot or safemode but it never seems to fix the problem.

I couldn't get killbox to work so i know there are some fucking .dlls around that need deleting.

Ugh whatever once i backup my entire pc, im going linux for good.

    My specs.

    AMD 3200+ 64 proc.
    Abit mobo
    512ram
    120g hd
    Windows XP PRO SP2

    Any help would be appreciated.

spybot, get it, update, immunize, scan, fix
    http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html

    AVG antispyware:
    http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/us/frt/0?prd=asf
    get it, update, scan, remove

    AVG antivirus:
    http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/us/frt/0?prd=aff
get it, update, scan, remove -- get rid of avast

    AVG antirootkit:
    http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/us/frt/0?prd=arw
    get it, scan

Usually antirootkits are... overkill. Let me rephrase, they're overkill for propperly secured computers. In your case, you'll want to run that.

    Done. nothing more, nothing less.

i use that link in conjunction with hijackthis. all you have to do is save or copy and paste a report into the box and then click a button. then it scans the report and tells you what to delete.

I didn't see anything bad, there a few unnecessary things but nothing dangerous

do a little more checking around on that wvuvvvv.dll though

on the stairs, she grabs my arm, says whats up,
where you been, is something wrong?
i try to just smile, and say everything’s fine.

Ok well i believe i have fixed it.

Installed AVG and it found 12 trojans and cleaned them.

                So far so good.

Im now debating on whether to convert my XP to the legal version or go with Linux.

                Thanks peeps.

any pirated windows version is going to be FULL of holes. Nix = free, but if you're a gamer, its no good... If you're not a gamer... go nix.

I would dual boot, going all linux can be a shock to the system

dual boot is a nightmare unless you know what you're doing... Easier if you have hot swap drives.

I'd say its worth it though, otherwise you'll have to do it after the fact, and thats harder

                          LOL!!!

Ok so im going to research this nix system. Not sure what thats about.

And the whole dual boot...i had that setup last year and i liked it but i felt i couldnt dedicate the room i wanted to to linux. It was a mess, i mean i can figure shit out and im decent but it was a pita.

Eric helped me with a lot of it actually.

Ive been told that its better to have Linux follow XP then vice versa because XP looks to fuck with anything it doesnt recognize.

Either way Ubuntu wasnt a shock to me because ive had little experience with Linux here and there but the 2nd time around i want to make sure i can get my Belkin wireless USB adapter to work, play all my music, and transfer all my stuff to an External HD which i dont own yet.

                          Well see not sure yet.

Well, XP doesnt particularly enjoy not being first in line, but it wont throw TOO much of a fit. I had Ubuntu/XP/OS X on a triple boot last year but GRUB wouldnt boot OS X for whatever reason, so I uninstalled Ubuntu and just used Darwin to boot. (Darwin is OS X's bootloader)

I really want to get a linux box, just play around with, but I dont have that type of money right now.

Yea i wish i had a laptop to just put linux on and experiment with and learn.

And i could take it with me and shit....but as so i dont have that money either so itll just be my desktop.
