when i almost died of an infection in my heart. at first i thought it was heart burn, but i tried to sleep it off. i was burning up having nightmares about being in hell. i could barely move. i went to the er and they told me i had pericarditis. if i held it anylonger that would been the end of the line for me.

and drowning, i suck at swimming and i got caught in a rip current. i thought i was done for.

Numerous times. The one that sticks out the most....

On our way back from an AA insertion south of Baghdad. Running left gun, cruising about 150ft AGL at about 150 kts. Heard my right gunner start screaming "Break Right, Break Right, Break Right". We did. I got on the gun to look for targets and watched a SA-7 go past us about 10 ft from the rotor system. If they would've shot that thing 30 seconds later, I probably wouldn't be typing this right now...

hahaha, like last year when i would jog, i was comming up to a intersection, and i decided to scroll thru some songs on my mp3 player. i ran into the HOV lane of the intersection without noticing it until i saw a car fly past me and it almost gave me a heart attack lol

i crashed wakeboarding last summer and knocked myself out cold. i was going 20.7 mph and cutting into the wake so probly somewhere around 30 mph or more, took flight once i popped off the wake, started going forward a little too much and the rope just pulled me down right into the water head first in the flats about 15 ft past the 2nd wake. im not exactly sure what happened but they said i was face down in the water cause my vest isnt coast guard approved, so it didnt roll me back over like its supposed to. i went in and out of consciousness and i had enough in me to take the board off. but i guess i slipped back out again right after that. head down again. finally woke up right at the back of the boat hanging on the platform. i dont think i was THAT close to dying cause everyone i was with immediately turned the boat around and came and got me. funny thing is, i remember right before it happened right down to the second it happened. then nothing after that.

When I was 13...I was going to my house from my grandparents and my grandfather was driving...A semi with no lights or no way of showing himself was on the side of the road, my grandpa moved over to the left a bit and slowed down to about 60mph on a 70 and when we got to maybe 40 feet from the tractor trailer he pulled out into the factory to the left and my grandpa hit the brakes. We slid for about 60 od ft and the passenger side were I was hit the trailer...When we hit I thought I was paralyzed because I couldnt move at all, I guess from tthe shock of it all...I finaly came too I started moving around but my neck was really messed up, Paramedics out me on the stretcher and took me away...That was the quickest 5 seconds of my life, seemes like as soon as we started braking we had already hit, but the skid marks said different...

I later found out that were the spare tire had been had saved my life, they said if we had went under I would have been dead....That was in a 95 saturn sl2.

When I was about 12 or 13, almost blew myself up. Went over to a buddies house and was helping him with some chores outside using a weedeater. Well the weedeater needed to be refueled so we went into the garage and he had a 10 or 15 gallon gas can, filled the weedeater up and some fell on the ground. So we figured we would have some fun and get a lighter and burn off. After that was burnt we poured more onto some grass from the weedeater but while my buddy was pouring I accidentally press the igniter on the lighter and all of a sudden his hand and the gas can were on fire. We quickly put out his hand and rushed to get a hose and hosed off the outside of the gas can. If we didnt get the water on it the whole garage with about 3 cars and a boat would have blown up and I would not be writing this. DONT PLAY WITH FIRE!

I was nearly killed by a drunk driver in the early 80's. Seatbelts weren't commonly used then, and I was up front on the center console with my mom. My dad told me to come back and lay down with him, and then wham, next thing I know, I was on the floor. Car was totaled, and the cops let him drive away drunk. To illustrate the force of the crash, he DESTROYED the front end of a 1982 Thunderbird in a Porsche 914. Had it been 10 seconds earlier, I would have been dead.

Then, at the age of 7, home alone, I was in the garage getting stuff down from a shelf, and it collapsed on my head and about 500lbs of stuff came down on top of me, and split my head open. I got the bleeding to stop after awhile, but when my parents came home, there was so much blood in the garage, they thought I had to have died.

I have had a few NMACs (Near mid air collisions) as well recently, which unfortunately just goes with the territory. In both cases, it was a good thing I happened to look in the right spot, because in both cases, there was less than a few seconds left. I have friends that have had them so close, they thought they DID hit, but I hope to not encounter any of those.
