Ive experienced both a 2001 SS camaro that was stock my mom had ls1 six speed. and my dads 94 z28 convertible auto with Mods. From driving both, i can tell you that the LS1 had alot more ass than that LT1 had. Even i usually dont like gm's The LS1 is a bad motherfucker. end of story.

Just about any Camaro will outhandle just about any Accord, so that should tell you something. The weight bias of rwd alone puts it a step above our 'beloved' econogrannybox. 6spd LS1s are quite capable of getting almost or more than 30mpg. Just gotta know when to drop the hammer and when not to. On the contrary, v8s most definitely do not suck.

I say the Trans Am simply because they look better IMO, and they aren't as common. It seems like every intersection had a Camaro or two (well, same with Accords). But, the Trans Am will be more expensive.

3rd gen F bodies (camarobirds) are very popular, and successful, autocross cars.

The fuel economy of the WS6 model in question would be about 1mpg less than my GTP across the board... The GTP gets 17-25mpg from my experience (it'll be about 45,000 miles in a year... at 41,000 now, March 2nd is a year... I'd say I have experience )

The F-bodies are very good cars. Actually quite reliable. The fuel economy isn't spectacular, and will only decrease with mods and a heavy foot... but as a second car, a fun car, it's a fantastic choice. The Camaro is slightly lighter. The Firebird has a more... elaborate... look to it.


Oddly enough, the automatics are reputed to be faster than the 6 speeds by about 1 tenth of a second. The 6 speed is probably more fun to drive, though!
