Are you qualified to work in the postal service? I don't know what/if there are any qualifications as I'm only 17 so I don't know how things work, but that would be a good job. Heard it pays well too, but again, I could be 100% wrong. I'm sure someone around here knows.

You're not JDM until you have a car built in ohio with tons of bolt ons from ebay.

Only if you'll be my Choda Boy!

As for a management position, I thought about that... I'd have to find the right company, though. Corporate management is a pain in the butt. My singer is an assistant manager at Walgreens, and he's been rising through the ranks VERY quickly... they love him. Until 3 weeks ago, he was all about Walgreens. Total gung-ho employee. Then they changed the rules to say that managers had to work weekends and holidays... something that has never been for all the time he's been there... and they moved him to a ghetto store... Now he hates it. He despises it. In 3 weeks time, the corporate machine turned a gung-ho employee into a zombie (band practice tonight is bound to be a bad one... on Friday, he was so bummed he couldn't sing for crap!) I thought about Autozone, Advance (a new one opened up down the street 2 months ago), or Pep Boys... all 3 are within a mile and a half from me...

I think that might be the type of thing I'd like to know someone in... Find someone who is already a manager and have a little leverage, rather than going in cold. I don't want to be chewed up and burnt out by corporate retail TOO quickly!

Actually, yeah... I think I'll check into that tomorrow, in fact! It was an idea I had a while back, but never acted on it (because I was doing well with the other job...) I know I'll have to take the Civil Service exam, but that's not hard. Basically just proves that I'm not totally incompetent. It's a government job (odd, because post offices are privately owned... lol) so it definitely pays well. Benefits are kickass as well... and walking is good exercise! Hopefully I can be a carrier... I don't want to be a sorter!

beat me to it, i was going to say, "have you ever seen deeve?" j/p man!

since you want to teach, you can substitute-teach if you have more than 60 credit hours (i will be doing this over christmas break and maybe spring break). i know that isnt a stable job, but it is good supplemental income.

otherwise, maybe try administrative assistance? if you can type and answer phone calls, you can do that!

Yeah man, check into it, see what it takes. It might be closer to reality than you think.

Also, have you ever considered getting your CDL? You could drive for a company that provides the truck for you so you don't have to make payments on one. Truck drivers make EXCELLENT money.

I was going to recommend this too but i know you need money now and don't want to go through the training but it would be a good income. I would never go as far as saying excellent. My dads been a truck driver 6 years now for a lumber co. and only makes $18 and hour. 3 out of 5 days a week are at least 12 hour days. Plus he has to help unload the truck. Yeah it pays ok but it can be bull work.

You could always go and apply at UPS/fedex w/o a CDL i'm almost positive you can drive their box truck.

Also w/ a BS in psych you can apply for some law enforcement positions. Prisons are always looking for guards and also try a courts probation dept. The job is dangerous but the money can be around $35k starting out.

just throwing this out there but what about teaching at like community colleges in the area??? Retail gets depressing to, and corporate......you have like 15 bosses. its obnoxious you cant even tell who you work for after awhile!

Even though it sounds like your tired of school and all, you could take suspension and steering classes at Com. college in like 3 months and be an alighnment tech making 30-40K a year w/ benifits. laid back job and fairly straight forward. (ecspecially if you work for the state.... police cars, buses, work vehicles, etc...)

Agreed, it can be hard work. So can I ask, from your perspective, would you think your father would say it's worth the money?

Maybe when he was younger and in better health he would have said it was worth it but now i highly doubt it. But since it puts food on the table and keeps a roof over his head he'll keep going back.
