I agree...she has the right to get the car back in the same condition she left off with. Well hopefully this guys shop is screwed for good and his poor reputation will follow him. So whats the latest in this case?

Put it this way if someone crashed your accord would you expect a 2008/2009
I only read what was posted in this thread... is she demanding a brand new car? I agree with you there, she isn't entitled to a new one. But whatever it would cost to bring her car back to where it was (or provide a new one in EXACTLY the same condition, mods and all) is only fair.

The owner's time, travel expenses, and emotional stress should be compensated for as well. If someone crashed my CB7, the entire car, as it sits right now, could probably be built for... I dunno... $7,000? Still, if someone wrecked my CB7 and handed me $7000, or even built me a new CB7 with the same mods, it won't be the same. It won't be my car. That matters a good deal to me! Of course, I'm sure this car wasn't on the same emotional level as my CB7 is to me... I've had my car for a long time, did much of the work myself, and I have a strong social involvement based on it (this forum). My emotional investments are long term, and clearly obvious. It's more than a hunk of metal to me.

If $40,000 will cover the cost of a replacement 2005, with all the same mods, in the same condition, then I say that's fair. If it can be done for less than $40,000, then the owner should be given the difference... or the difference can be put into the car in the form of additional mods. IF $40,000 is NOT enough, then whatever it costs should be spent.

I can't say I want the guy's shop to fail. Honestly, it was a careless mistake. It was the business equivalent to putting your foot in your mouth... MAJORLY.
He screwed up. That is clearly evident. Now, how he handles it will prove to me what sort of businessman he is. Sometimes, fixing your mistake is the best way to show your worth.

well the shop owes the owner their car back. Now that's not possible in this current condition. So they have to replace it with a vette comprable to the one she handed the keys over with, WHATEVER that costs. Because they made an obligation to her to install whatever mods on it and probably she signed a contract for that labor. A totalling of her corvette was not on the agenda. She doesn't deserve a new one though... why? b/c her's was used, so she'll get one in the same shape/mileage. Thats possible, I mean how hard is it to find a red auto 2006 Corvette?...not hard. Its not like she did all the work herself, so i doubt she has as much emotional attachment as we do w/ our CB7's. So the case is simple here, just give her a Corvette in similar shape with all the mods she had on it previously. If I were the owner, I'd offer her some other kind of compensation, not monetary, but rather labor wise. This was clearly a mistake on his part so he needs to resolve it w/ dignity and not make a big mess of it.
