The Osprey had a catastrophic launch taking the lives of a few pilots. Later on they edited the flaws and now I dont think the marines use them anymore. I rarely see anymore around. Usually just see chinooks and some other combat helicopters laying around. The Ospreys might be used in other areas but I havent seen one in the air for the longest time.

Yes, the Harrier was old technology. Still is, that is why it is hard to fly. Of course, the original Osprey design is from the 80's/90's so it isn't like it was cutting edge by todays standards. Computers alleviate some of the issues, but they don't totally eliminate the inherent dangers of changing phases. The Marine Corps officers are specifically the ones who talked about why they split them off, due to the flight charachteristics. So take it for what it is worth.
Also, you will see many more in the future. We had one make an emergency landing a couple years ago with engine trouble, and they stored it in our hangar until the got it fixed. Very impressive machine. It was on its delivery flight.
