Olympus SP-350 and higher models. It's what I used prior to my Canon 350D.

Canon Powershot S3IS is also another great camera I used for a short time. Fell in love with it right away.

These two cameras are as close as you're going to get to a digital slr without the slr price. They're both high mp, which doesn't really matter. But they both have full manual settings, which is great if you want great pictures.

just make sure you get something with a rechargable battery and manual mode. Ive always been a Canon fan, but really its up to you what brand you support. If your just getting into it, doesnt really matter what camera you buy.

how much did those run you? you got any sample pics you took with it? that would greatly help so i can see the quality pics it takes.

Here's a thread I made when I first bought the Olympus
              http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthre...ht=photography

As for the Canon S3IS, here are a few pictures. This was my first day with the camera and only about 40 shots that day

yeah im not sure about sanyo cameras.

I would personally stick to either Canon, Nikon, or Sony. Im not a big fan of Nikon P&S build quality...they tend to feel cheap to hold...but go to the store and play around...you will find something that feels right to you.

how about a normal rebel/300d i had one for a short while... they are very inexpensive and effective.... only thing that drove me nuts is it was kinda slow reading the cf card to show the pictures after u shot them.... and shooting events and such that isnt really an option.

check your local craigslist...or ebay...they are a great solid camera...Im still shooting with mine...It is slower camera compared to the newer ones today (in the sense of reading/writing to CF card and going back and forth from shooting mode/viewing mode)...but as long as your not shooting professionally you wont have any problem.

My Olympus was $200+tax at Costco a year ago. I'm sure you could get it for about the same or less online.

The Canon, I have no idea. It was a friends camera.

Check out dpreview and see the reviews on the cameras and do some side by sides and compare and see what fits you bro. If its just for cars, there is a fujifilm camera with 10x optical zoom and some other nice features that should butter your muffin...lol

I spend 400 last summer on the 3SIS....but that included a memory card, bag and some other shit.

I love the camera and like d112 said its as close as you can get to a DSLR without actually getting one.....and since the 5SIS is now out Im sure you can grab one for fairly cheap.

I personally will only buy Canon cameras though...I worked for a high end camera store for a while in high school and all I ever heard were good things about canons.
