Thinking bout trying to buy this car... what do you think?

    http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...ice=&cardist=7

I won't pay the full asking price, I figure if I can get the car for 300/month for 60 months it will work out well. I owe about 5000 on my lude, but its probably only going to be worth about 4000 or 3500.

    Anybody got any input?

I've always hated Altimas until the newest models... but I have to say, I like the SE-R version. It's got the Maxima engine, so you know it has some balls. I'd say go for it, if you can get it for a decent price. If you can get it for 16k out the door (with the remainder of your lude rolled in, tax, title, tags, etc...) then I say it's a decent deal.

It's basically a Maxima. Same engine, same transmission (from what I could tell), weighs about the same...

          Show your work.

          300X60 =18K.

asking price of 16K plus tax, reg, Arizona vehicle tax...17.5.K plus you're upside down on your current loan, so add ~1500 and we're at 19K.
          Plus interest, of course.
          Car loan calculator

Looks more like 380/mon at asking price, 360 if you can bust him down a grand. Of course, your insurance will go up, large.
How much is your down payment?

Don't want to sound like I'm pissing on your parade, just want you to know what you're getting into.
As Deev said, it's basically a Max, in a slightly smaller/lighter package. I have the 3.5/6M combination, and it ROCKS. Any speed, any gear....GO. Leather heated power everything. My only caveat on the Bose head unit, but that's common knowledge, if you've done even a mild research lookee-loo. No car is perfect.

A 250hp FWD people-carrier with a sport package is faster than a 290hp RWD sportscar that weighs 200lbs less? It's quick, yes... but not quicker than a 350z.

Performance is almost exactly identical to a 4 door Accord V6 6 speed. Which puts a few ticks slower than a well driven 350Z, although in all honestly, they usually only run low 14's stock.

I've heard and seen nothing but bad things about these cars. My parents just got rid of theirs.

                      i like the SE-R's.

I like the fact that they only came in like 3 colors. Does it have the body/lip kit or not? I cant tell from the pics...

Sounds like a good deal as long as youre able to keep up on the payments.

SE-R's are doable. Doesn't look bad at all. Looks nice in black.

Too much money, stick with what you have if it is reliable and drivable. If not, get something else. Most of us want fast cars but we forget the other things like insurance, annual cost of fuel, maintenance and such. Like the other post, probably 19k out the door with everything else, then full coverage so thats another 300-500 a month so u need to rake in at least 2k a month to be decent by most standards.

Since its a v-6 you will get 17-24 mpg or maybe better, and the average miles a month is around 1k so your looking at a gas bill of around 200 dollars a month more or less. Annual cost is 2.4k so you have to essentially pay 35-40k till you own the car, but by then it will be obsolete and you will want another vehicle in which you will start the cycle all over again.

In short, keep the lude and save up till u can put a down payment or buy the whole thing, or if lucky get help form the parents or something.

my parent have a 2005 3.5 auto and get about 32 mpg on the highway at about 75-80...
I wanted to get one of these... the only thing people seem to complain about on these is the suspension being a bit harsh, But it is a sport tuned suspension so I dont know what they are complaining about...
From what I was told this motor is a detuned 350z, kind of like the A1 A4 and A6 ( i may be wrong this is just what I was told by a couple of the guys at the dealership)
they sound mean as fuck and they do have some pick up and go.
however I was told that theey are not as fast as the 3.5 5 speed. They "handle better" but are not as quick. Its more of a track car, hince the sport tuned suspension. I still want one of these. Os even better I would like to put this motor in a first gen MR2... That would be balls to the wall in every gear...

I say buy it... then sell it to me for cheap :P

You cant really factor gas into the overall price of the car....as any car needs gas so thats always a loss.

And I dunno about you but its taking me forever to save up 5k to buy a new (used) car....so Id hate to think how long itd take to save up 20k....so saving for the whole things seems a bit far-fetched....and if im not mistaken hed be trading the lude in as some of the down-payment.

I personally though would keep the lude....but thats just because I dont like altimas....They seem so generic to me.
