Create an e-annoyance, go to jail

    http://www.news.com/2010-1028-6022491.html

"It's no joke. Last Thursday, President Bush signed into law a prohibition on posting annoying Web messages or sending annoying e-mail messages without disclosing your true identity.

In other words, it's OK to flame someone on a mailing list or in a blog as long as you do it under your real name. Thank Congress for small favors, I guess."

looks like that saves a few asses on this board....

and for the record, my name is now "john-parker"

as to why they would pass that law. it would take a lot to enforce it
      Maple50175 - you're annoying =P
Brandoncb7 - I don't mean to come across like an ass but I see why you irritate Aaron now.

This probably has to do with the myspace girl who committed suicide because of a neighbor.

          Story of what happened

Or at least gave it a pretty good nudge.

where you been, is something wrong?
i try to just smile, and say everything’s fine.

                    Good Point. I agree

Some people are stronger than others.

I can't wait till someone actually tries to use this. I want to see how it unfolds.

It's a nice idea to combat spamming... much like the "don't call" list for phones, to eliminate unwanted marketing calls. However, enforcing (not inforcing) such a law will be damn near impossible. Just from running this board, I know it's pretty much useless to ban individual spammers, because they never come back. Once in a while we'll catch one that's using the same IP, and we'll ban that... but there are too many, and they're too well hidden.

Not to mention, many of them aren't from this country, and not easily subjected to our laws.

The GOOD thing about such a law is that it makes any sort of illegal activity even more of a crime. If you get charged with harassment online for any reason, and it's done under a false identity, that's another charge to stick to you.

After reading the full story of the girl that committed suicide because the myspace comments, I can see where that could easily be an influence. That story was sad... an unfortunate situation where you really can't blame the parents. The heartless bastards that did it were pretty bad, but even then... just bullying gone too far, with unforeseen consequences.
