I'm a female..
You don't have to have a prescription to be on BC, they can get BC at health clinics and stuff like that. With me I went to my OBGYN so he gave me a certain type you can say a prescription. They have all types. Most doctors will prescribe the best form of BC for your body. Like with me Yas will make me ill and Yasmin will not. Their two diff. types of BC. One you get regular periods and the other you only have periods i think 4 to 5 times a year if that.

I'm a little surprised you posted a question like this here since nobody is going to know fuck-all about the subject.
Anyway I can help you out some. The problem your chick is having is because her T to E ratio is completely out of balance. You should know this, but most dont... yes women have testosterone too. Some is produced in the ovaries with the rest coming from the adrenal gland. However, it is nowhere close to being the dominant hormone, at approximately 12% the amount of most men. Birth control works because of raised estrogen, either by bioactive analogues of estrogen or precursors to it (usually estradiol or similar).
The main ingredient in YAZ is ethinylestradiol which was originally synthesized in 1938. US FDA approved it in 1943. All this is is a highly orally active estrogen with an ethinyl group attached to the C17 position of the molecule, allowing it to make first pass liver metabolism without being broken apart. The monophasic pill is raising her E levels higher for longer every month. Not only does this affect the ratio but it is lowering her own test production through a negative feedback loop. As a result she doesn't want to fuck that much and probably feels like shit more. I suspect that the "permanent" sex drive damage is psychological due to prolonged incorrect hormone levels.
The problem with trying to correct this apart from changing which pill she uses is the possibility of decreasing the effectiveness. Furthermore most doctors are complete idiots when it comes to endocrinology and will have no clue what to do when presented with such a question.
If you have access to a truely knowledgeable endocrinologist then I'd be curious to see what he had to say. Honestly though, I think her best bet is to use a triphasic pill isntead of trying to further modify hormone levels when they are already being introduced to the body exogenously.

If your sex drive is just fine on these then no worries...but if you suspect something...then try a different type.
Condoms are any where from 70-80% effective depending on who you ask.
Pulling out...is not effective either
the pill is one of the highest effective rate birth controls
of course your doc will tell you to use two methods of bc (condom and the pill) for best results...but 99.9?% is pretty good...but still...that .01 or .1% still itches in the back of my head.
EXCELLENT post DoctorCipher and all too true. But most folks here would have stopped reading my post by the second sentence if I went into testosterone and estrogen production but thank you for adding that in. It IS good for folks to know the mechanisms of how it all works.
The study spoke of mentioned sex-hormone binding globulin (SHBG)...which is increased. I was incorrect in calling it a hormone...it's a protein. SHBG binds to testosterone, preventing a woman’s body from using it effectively. High levels of SHBG have been directly linked to decreased libido and sexual desire. And prolonged use of the monophasic type pills...I'm pretty sure that's what I read. The article can be found here
http://www.epigee.org/guide/pill_sex.html
The monophasics I believe use constant amount of both progesterone and estrogen...which as you correctly stated...through negative feedback reduces testosterone. Plus add shbg and double wammy.
the triphasics use three different hormones three different weeks so the negative feedback on test. is reduced. As to the protein I'm not sure if it's production is reduced or what exactly.
I haven't researched it too much beyond that so I'm prolly leaving some out...but...for majority of the folks here they prolly aren't interested in much more.
Thanks again for the reply!____

Holy shit, I can't fucking believe someone here knows what SHBG is.
I would tell you a whole lot more on the subject but at this point we're getting into a controversial area of biochemistry and supplementation that only people who know what they're doing should know about. You should PM me.

right now my girlfriend(same one i knocked up) has a UID, i think thats what its called, but even with that, i still use a condom.
