What to do About These Spammers!?

Ok so everyone on here has pretty much noticed this spammer rise that came out of nowhere, terrorizing the begginer off topic section.. How do we gid rid of them..:coughjdkldeev?: anywho, would it really just be a good idea to charge like $1.00 or something like that to register, or is this whole "spammer" issue not that big. I mean, cause thats gonna be alot of unused screenames in the db, or maybe deev or some other admin. just deletes them?

x2 Ignore them, when they see they arent getting a response they dont usually stick around.. When they do get a response, ANY response they tend to tell their friends and then we have 50 more spam threads.

Deev and the mods are good about at least closing spam threads or completely deleting them.

I haven't spent that much time in the beginners off topic lately but I havent seen as many as there used to be.

Spammers. They sign up, post once, and are gone. The IPs rarely repeat, so an IP ban is useless. A regular ban, obviously, is useless as well.

We've been getting more because I removed the email registration requirement. Too many members weren't getting their registration emails for some strange reason... no idea why. Some were, some weren't. I couldn't figure out a pattern to it, so I just removed it.

Yea, but the will the site get overloaded with all these unused usernames, or do you just cancel them?

They stay. Deleting usernames tends to cause more problems than it's worth. It won't get overloaded.
