    Project Mayhem

Ok here's the deal, take one unwanted little beater car, pull off everything that weighs an ounce, basic bolt on modifications and what do you have? A really cool and cheap little track car.

1.) The car must be CHEAP, and I'm talking $500 max.

2.) Car must be light to start with, no heavy beasts

3.) Parts must be cheap and readily available.

That pretty much leaves me with four options, Honda, Nissan, Toyota, or Saturn.

Now in order to fund this little project my team and I are going to be selling advertising space on the body of the car. The other funding will come from selling the parts we remove from the car. Other than that it's coming out of my pocket.

I live in and drive around Lafayette, LA (city of 200,000+ people) all day long, and I will be keeping this car street legal, so I will be driving it in town fairly often.

For a $10 contribution I will put a 10" x 2" banner of whatever you'd like on my car. For instance your website address or anything else you'd like to advertise.

    For a $25 contribution I will put a 16" x 4" banner of whatever you'd like on the car.

For $100 i will cover the entire hood with any logo or wording you'd like.

Donations will also be accepted, even $1 here and there would make all the difference. My crew and I are not what you'd call wealthy.

All contributors and donators will recieve a free copy of the "making of" DVD, which I will be producing, showing the buildup of the car in question.

I will update this post as soon as I have some news.

Donations may be made to computersandmore@gmail.com

Thank you for making a dream come true!

Don't leave out Mazda. The Protege and 323 have LOTS of potential, and they weigh nothing. Neons are junk, but they too have a ton of potential and light weight.

Saturns are light as hell, but my neighbor gave up on his after toasting his second transmission. He drives a CRX now.

What sort of mods are you planning? What sort of racing will you be doing?

Buy an old civic. You know hondas to begin with, and there are PLENTY of available parts for civics.

Old Civic with a ZC swap, or if you want to spend more money, a B16 or B18. Hondas are expensive still, though.

The Summit/Colt/Mirage is a good idea, since the 4G63 (t or no t... decent options for either) is a quick and easy swap.

The old Sentra is killer too. Drop in an SR20DE and put some good suspension stuff on there... it'll be a beast.

The old Neon has potential as well, as I said. The SRT4 motor can be swapped in (or just the head...) and there are some suspension options.

Mazdas = BP-t swap. Same with a Ford Escort GT.

Because the Colt is different from the Summit how? The Dodge/Mitsubishi badge?

                  Same car. Different name.

The only problem with Honda stuff is that they're often overpriced. People want $1500 for a rusted out CRX around here!

                          A 4G63t colt is redonkulous.

Also, the early 90s Hyundais can get the 4G63t as well. The Sonata (about as heavy as a CB7) came with an NA version, so the swap is direct. The Elantra (about as heavy as an EG Civic) came with a variant, and the swap is fairly direct. The Excel, which is so light it's absolutely silly, needs one mount to be modified... not too hard.

The only problem with Hyundai is that the suspension options are limited. I still want a 4G63t Excel though!

I'm actually looking at a 98 200sx right now, it's a 5speed has 80k miles on the motor and a new clutch, but the hood and bumper is messed up from a collision (frame looks solid though), A/C is already broken, and driver side window is stuck. For $500 I'm thinking this light little Nissan might be the way to go.

and yes, if you pay for the advertising space you can put "This Car Sucks" on the side of my car, I could care less.

The 200sx isn't a bad choice. Basically a 2 door Sentra, but I believe it has the SR20DE in it. If you can get a car that new for $500, and it's mechanically sound, that's gold! "this car sucks" wouldn't apply!
