I have seen cars that were more smashed than that where people walked away from it.

The car is designed to absorb the impact so the occupants don't have to, so if the car looks like that, it is actually a better thing.

Also, I remember one case down in Phoenix where a guy driving a Honda Civic had a Semi change lanes on top of him. The car was drug down the freeway, disintegrating as it went, and by the time the deal was done, there was NOTHING left of the car. But the guy driving it lived.

It's amazing how some people can survive a horrible wreck... I've also seen some accidents that appeared fairly minor, but someone in the car still died.
