May have narrowed down the choice for my next car...

If what the rags are saying is true, it appears as though there is a good chance the CR-Z will be offered in a gas engine K20 form, which would be one choice.

The other is the very possible rebirth of the RX-7 with a new 16x rotary. If Mazda sticks to their sports car philosophy (small and light) and boosts that badboy (I am guessing 300-350HP), I would be down for that as well.

Both would be brand new first year vehicles... which I think I read somewhere you like to stay away from.

I would be excited to see a new RX-7 though. The RX-8 is bad ass. It just needs more power.

Weren't you thinking about an accord? What happened to that?

I don't have as much of a problem with first year vehicles. My 90 was a first year vehicle and it has been the best Honda I have ever seen.

And yes, I am considering an Accord. I like the way it looks, I LOVE the J series, and I love the 6 speed manuals, but part of me thinks it is getting too big an bloated. The 4 door drives really well, but it is still a BIG car. It drives smaller than the 7th gen, but it is quite a bit bigger. The coupe is supposed to be more sporty than any other previous Accord, but I haven't been able to drive one yet, so I can't say for sure. The fact that it is usually just me though, kind of offsets the need for a huge vehicle.

Plus, a part of me wants something small, fast and light. Both of these would fit that bill.

That narrows it down to about 4 though. It would all come down to the test drives, and probably the price LOL!

Yeah, I would agree with you on the small, fast and light. I think most new cars are far too bloated, everything about all cars is humongous. It's unnecessary in my opinion.

If you like the J-series enough just throw it into your cb7 with the money you''ll save on not getting a new car.

Honestly, I would rather just buy a new one.

Don't have to fab anything, it comes with a warranty, and the H is a good match for the CB chassis.

Yeah, I can understand that. I expect it will be another 23525 years before you make up your mind. But best of luck to ya.

With the two cars mentioned i believe it comes down to comfort.

Sure the Cr-z and Rx7 will most likely be badass but are they going to provide comfort when your not in the mood to drive a small sporty car?

I mean you have the cb and well all know they can be just as comfy as sporty depending on what you do to them.

If the cb is your comfort ride and you want something you can really tear shit up in, then i would go with one of the two already mentioned.

Mazda had some issues with the RX-8, and the Renesis was a "new" engine as well... so if the RX-7 comes out with the 16b, it may be subject to similar problems.

The CR-Z could potentially be a little more stable, since they're likely to use the already-debugged K20. The suspension will probably be Civic-based, or maybe Fit based (fit up front, civic rear?) so that probably won't be extremely new technology either.

The potential for the major components to fail would be a little less on a first year CR-Z than it would be on a brand new RX-7.

The RX-7 is most likely going to be expensive... if it's turbo, it's likely to be more than the RX-8, which is NOT a cheap car. The Honda is likely to be very inexpensive.

Oddly enough, I've got my eye on the Pontiac G8, or the Hyundai Tiburon/Genesis Coupe. Two makers that previously haven't instilled much confidence, but I have a feeling these cars are going to be quite impressive.

dont forget about the new ae86-style car that toyota is coming out with in a couple years. rwd, 4cyl, NA, light as hell, coupe. sounds like fun, and will be priced about 14k.

And the "new" Delorean is coming out as well It won't be cheap, but a brand new Delorean rocks!

The 2 door accord is pretty sweet, if you could get a nicer looking grille to replace the huge silver one, I think it'd look really good

on the stairs, she grabs my arm, says whats up,
where you been, is something wrong?
i try to just smile, and say everything’s fine.

This is why the Accord coupe is still in the running. I would have the Accord to tear stuff up in (it does just fine for me, and I am not done yet), and realistically, most of my human life does not exist cutting apexes, and weaving in and out of traffic. In the real world, 90% of the performance I would need is to squirt through traffic, and that is something that a 6 speed J series would excel at.

All true, although, most people I have encountered that have rotary trouble are partly to blame. Maybe not in the case of a new Renesis, which should have a warranty and be mostly untouched, but perhaps Mazda has taken the opportunity to incorporate all design issues into the new one. It is basically what amounts to a bored and stroked 13B, which has been around forever. I think most of the Renesis issues are related to other bolt on stuff, as opposed to the engine itself. Still, I don't want to have to deal with such issues on a new car. And there is always an off chance I will wait until after the first year too.

I like the way the G8 looks (except for the hideous tail lights), but I don't like the fact that the V8 is DOD, and may be hard to upgrade. And even with DOD, the mileage won't be stellar with the way I would drive it. It is a superb looking car though. I wouldn't consider a V6 version, and I am curious to see how the build quality and long term durability are.

I haven't met a Toyota yet that I really liked. I like their old hardbody pickups, which don't have anything to break, but other than that, I have been underwhelmed by every Toyota I have ever touched.
