I thought about a gas station. There's a Wawa gas station that I always go to (Wawa is a convenience store that recently started selling gas). Nice place, great food... but busy as hell!

Most smaller gas stations are owned and operated by foreigners. Two guys will come over from wherever they're from and work 7 days a week, 12 hour shifts each. They spend all day on the phone speaking whatever language they speak.

Deev, just wondering, what is your 2 day a week job?

And my recommendation for a second job is a security officer... you can sit around and play gameboy, or on a laptop, or whatever...

working in a print shop is just what you described. I'm getting paid right now. all I do is play on the internet, play my psp, and read books. every once in a while I make some copies for somebody, but not that often. Most of my job is done by machines. I love my job.

Deev, when you find this job let me know.. I have been looking for a job like that for a long time.. Closest thing I could find was a telemarketing job.. That lasted all of 4 days before I got fired for not meeting my "teams" quota.. lol. Later

I'm a property inspector for a law firm that deals with foreclosures. I basically drive around all day and visit 10-30 houses each day. I try to get some information on the occupants of the house. If it's the owners, I ask a few background questions. If it's a tenant, I ask some info regarding their lease, and for contact info for the owner. If it's vacant... score! Vacancies mean I just got paid to do nothing! If there's nobody home, I try to talk to the neighbors to figure out who lives there. Easy work, unless I get someone that wants to tell me their life story. I have to do tax and phone searches before I go out (usually the night before, 2-3 hours). I put the addresses into Microsoft Streets and Trips (awesome program), print them out in case my GPS doesn't find the places, and head out early. My area is about an hour to and hour and a half away, so I can leave at 7:30 and start knocking by 9. I can do up to 400 miles in a day, though 250-300 is normal. I've never had to get gas before I made it home (came close, but so far so good!) I've spent up to 15 hours on the road. It's usually 9-12, though (that includes the 3+ hours to and from the area... depending on traffic, which can be hell)
Once I make it home, I have 3-5 hours of paperwork ahead of me (three to FIVE!). I have to take all that I collected in my searches and visits and enter it into a spreadsheet. Then I have to take the pictures I took (one of each house), rename, resize, and convert to BMP (found some utilities to do size and conversion in batches, so it's way easier than when I started!)

The worst part is when I can't find a place... I spend a long time searching online for some clue... a developer, trash schedules, etc... I've found places by looking for roads that existed that weren't on my GPS! I usually call the town hall or tax assessor. They usually help.

I get paid per house, regardless of if I talk to someone or not. I don't get paid if I can't find the place, which sucks... that's where the most time is often spent!

It KILLS my cars (30,000 miles on the GTP since MARCH!), I pay for my own gas, and I have to pay my own taxes (technically self-employed). The money is good, but it's got it's downsides!

As for a security job... I came across one of those on Craigslist... I might consider that!

Bud, what sort of printing company do you work at? Like a Kinkos or something, or an actual printing company?

Too bad you in Jersey... you could work down here at Pepboys, with me! Then you wouldnt need me to get 20% off on that engine lift you want.

I thought about applying to the one up here... or the Autozone 3 blocks away... or the Advance Auto going up half a mile away... or the Napa 2 blocks from that...

The bad thing about retail is that all the old people get the good daytime hours, and the younger people are stuck with the night hours.
