The problem with these discussions, is that they can only end one way.
"Faith", "Belief", "values" etc are all highly individual and like previously mentioned are based on an INDIVIDUALS perception of reality.
Perception has everything to do with "truth" and not everybodies' is the same.
A practical case in point.
A flight student was consistently making an error. He was consistently denying that he made that error. He honestly BELIEVED that he didn't make the error. He had FAITH that his interpretation of reality was accurate.
He was filmed on video tape and the tape was played back to him. He belief in reality was wrong.
The problem was that he was so used to being an overachiever, that his ego would not allow him to see the mistake he was making, because in his mind, it would have been a severe mental blow. So he denied reality, never saw the mistake, and continued to believe he never made it, until he was FORCED (not physically, but mentally) to see the mistake on video tape.
It isn't to say that all religions are a result of ignoring reality. It is merely an illustration that every sensory input requires interpretation by the brain, based on our particular perceptions, meanings, experience, before they can be interpreted, utilized, etc. It is like a computer. What our senses detect is merely raw data input. It is our brain that turns that data into something meaningful, and the real issue in discussions like this arises when different brains interpret the same data differently due to their different perceptions.
I will predict the future here, and say that I see this thread being closed at some point...
You do have a very valid point which is why everything being stated is on an "opinion" basis.
I trust the mods will close it if needed, but it hasn't gotten nasty or vicious yet?!?!?

I would acknowledge your points if you actually made them and stopped generalizing what you hate about a faith you know apparently know little about.
.
I know more about faith than 99% of religious people. Just because i dont believe, doesnt mean I'm ignorant about the subject. That is, in it self an ignorant assumption.
I am "Generalizing" what I hate about faith because I've been down this road one too many times. There is no use in arguing, no ones mind is going to be changed here. I could ramble on and one spitting out facts, hard evidence, mathematical equations, etc. But no matter what, its going to be argued with "God is too mysterious to understand his ways", "Things are the way they are because god made them to be that way" or something of that nature.
I am simply standing up for the other side of theology.
personally man, The world is super old. And how did you know that Humanity is 6000 years old ? I did think ppl knew that. How ever seriously man, I wouldnt say that you dont have your reasons maybe something happend to you or you just fell out of "IT", but if some one can believe in evil spirits why cant they also believe in the supreme loving spirit God.

By "looking for a fight" I meant lining your "arguments" with insults like you have done.

Bring on the valid points.

I believe. In the truth. The truth is God is Real and our worship and attention is how all of us show Satan that humanity was saved.
If we came from monkeys then the evolution would have been too great for the 2.5% change from chimps. Any way man something is wrong with atheists.
These are both personal attacks, neither of which will be tolerated as per the rules of the board.
You have done just fine Pat, so this isn't personal against you. But the crap has already started, and I am not going to let it get worse.
I predicted the future a short time ago, and had no idea it would go down this fast, but I suspected it might.
Alas, religion is individual, but the Devil really is in the details isn't he?

Blah, I said I was leaving, but i have to address this.
Firstly, your reading comprehension is terrible.
Secondly, I never fell out of "IT". I was never in "IT". I was born and raised without religious influence in my life. Both my Mother and Father are/were Catholic.
They chose not to have me baptised at birth because my father believed I should be able to choose my religion when I reached an age where I could make an informed, concious decision.
If anything, I believe I have a much clearer view of the world than most. Its hard to say that without it soundling like an insult, and I apologize, but it is the way I feel. I was not raised with the veil of religion over my eyes.
Religion has a severe brainwashing effect. You believe what you were told, simply because it is all you have ever known.
I need to do my damn homework now..
EDIT: Scott closed this thread while I was replying, i was in no way trying to sneak in the last word here.
My reasons for not wanting a thread like this started (much of which are stated in my discussion with Beefy in the 1,000,000 posts thread) are for this very reason... People can't have a civil discussion about religion. Not random strangers, anyway. When it comes to religion, anyone who has a strong belief (either for or against) is ALWAYS right... they argue their points as fact, and like to put others down. Religion is personal. Nobody else is you, so nobody else will ever see things exactly as you do. End of story.
Show me God, and I'll listen to your argument. Show me respect, and I'll listen to your opinion. Show me neither, and your words mean nothing to me.
Pat, I truly respect your deep faith. However, there really isn't a place for such a discussion on a Honda forum. It has cost us some very good members in the past... I'd rather not lose good members because of a thread in Off Topic.
And yes, I AM taking the last word... because I can.
