Just bought an 1983 Camaro!

Ok guys, so as most of you know, ive been toying with the idea of buying a '83 camaro. well, tonight we finallized it. bought it for $$850.00

pix at bottom of post for those who havent seen it. and i will try to get a pic of the motor thursday or so. its got the 305, supposedly built but theres no way of me knowing yet. it does however CLEARLY have:
Edelbrock valve covers
Edelbrock intake manifold
Edelbrock air filter housing
Flowmaster exhaust
Auto meter: 3" tach, temp gauge, oil pressure gauge, and volt meter

so heres the deal. It failed inspection Saturday morning for the following reasons:
Headlights need aimed
Headlights need to match (currently, 2 are halogen and 2 are regular)
Exhaust has leaks
Left front wheel bearing needs replaced
Idler Arm needs replaced
Horn does not work
windshield wipers (dont know why. at first the inspection station said they didnt work. then we proved they did, there just hard to turn on. so now he said they need replaced )


SOOOO thursday im driving it 30 miles on the rejection tag with dealer plates, to Triplett Tech, where i take auto body. the teacher allows us to work on our personal vehicles for grades, so im going to fix every thing there. then im gonna sandblast it and respray it either white with the louvres and headlight pockets black, or just spray it all black.


so heres what you all need to do
1) pray for me to not get pulled over on the way to the shop thursday.
2) encourage me to finish it every once in a while

Dammit... I just came across a GREAT deal on 2 CB7s AND turbo parts for a rediculously low price... in VA. I was gonna tell you about it!

Dammit... I just came across a GREAT deal on 2 CB7s AND turbo parts for a rediculously low price... in VA. I was gonna tell you about it!

well, i probably would have said no, but thanks for lookin out for me!

see, ive been dying for another car that i can play with and mod and beat on and not worry about too much, you know?

and as far as i can see, this camaro is just perfect. its "quick" NOT "fast" the way it is now, and its got a few issues i can fix, which will give me the oppurtunity to learn about the car, as well as pull in an extra grade in my auto body class.

the way i see it, I could have:
A) payed $$900 for a CB7, then another $$??? making it as fast as the camaro, and looking as good. To do so, i figure an accord would need AT LEAST: H22, I/H/E, and some weight reduction. then of course the same body mods my old one had and some nice paint.

OR

B) buy the camaro for $$850, fix what it needs to pass VA's inspec which will cost an additional $120, roughly. then the body work will cost a little bit more, since im gonna sandblast it, then respray it.
Color choices: White with the louvres in the hood black, and the headlight pockets black
or just all black. give me ur opinions. but i get a discount on all my stuff through the school so this should be an excellent experience.

see, my friend kyle is the son of the owner of the lot i bought it from, and he drives a grey GMC mini truck. well, the wheels/tires on his truck USED to be on the camaro, but of course, the camaro had some nice American Racing (i think) rims with low pros, that Kyle OF COURSE wanted on his truck! lol cant blame him tho, they look good on his truck, and the camaro wont need decent wheels/tires for a while anyways... i wonder if my 18" Kobe's will fit it...

well, when your next to it, you can see the imperfections.

1) its got more sparkle in the paint than a Bass Tracker
2) the body has its imperfections, such as a few tiny rust spots, and a crack in the rear bumper that will be filled appropriatly and then need painted, so why not?
and 3) the teal skirts and louvres are less than... how should i say... appealing... to me.

one more thing: i will be taking pictures and keeping a progress log throughout the repairs of the camaro, so ill try to keep you all up to date.

83 Berlinetta. Meh. Could've found a better year IMHO, but to each their own. Pull the 305 and tranny out of it, drop in a 383 stroker with a built T5 and you'll have you a fun, affordable car that will move out pretty good.

Well good luck with that. The chassis are limp in stock form, and the interior is the epitome of GM's bad reputation, but small blocks can be fun, and the car does have some potential.

Personally, I have always thought they look better in darker colors.

Also, powerwise highly depends on the condition of the engine, as many have been beat, and I killed several with an auto F22. However, if in good shape, they can be OK.
