I can understand racial differences... and no, I probably wouldn't be offended, simply because we're from different cultures. If I was "cool as a white boy", that'd be a flattering comment, seeing as it's coming from someone that has a different background. I mean, we're all people, but different races DO often have different cultures... it's idiotic to assume that because "color doesn't matter" that a black family has the same sorts of experiences as a white family... or even moreso, an asian family. I know a few asian people, and their family life (especially those with immigrant parents) is considerably different. BUT, using race as an attack, especially in a situation where it has NOTHING to do with ANYTHING, is totally uncalled for.

It's funny, just based on your syntax, i can tell you're pretty annoyed about this situation. Rightfully so.

The first thing I thought of was "man, I came from Lindenwold! I'm blacker than you!"

If you guys know anything about NJ, you've probably heard of Camden. Camden is probably one of the scariest, most dangerous cities in the country. It is mostly black and hispanic. Well, MOST of it has burned down, or is thoroughly unlivable. Lindenwold, the town I grew up in, has 26 apartment complexes in 5 square miles... so LOTS of living space in a relatively small area. It also happens to be right at the end of the line for the train that runs to Camden, and then across the bridge to Philly. Lots of room, inexpensive living, access to the cities... Yeah, they all moved to my town. My town had a very large black population, and a very poor, rough one at that. I never really understood the "you don't belong here" concept. Sure, I'm white as white can be... but I've grown up among "black" people (not only color, but culture... and the lower class culture that those that are a part of have so much pride in) all my life. To me, the guy with the pants around his knees and the durag on his head is just another guy like me. "I don't belong here" my ass.


"Get your ass outta here" ... fine. He's pissed. I'll take that. "Get your WHITE ass outta here"... why? Why does it matter.

Man, HOURS later and I'm still fuming about this! Mainly because there's nothing I can do. I can say with fair certainty that he got to wherever he was going, talked to his other black friends about the "whitey" that he got into an argument with, and none of them probably corrected him. Sure, it's an assumption, but I can only think that the people he hangs with share a similar mindset.

I can't say I don't have my prejudices... If I don't understand someone's culture, I may make assumptions... but I consciously try to keep any of those assumptions out of any decisions I make when interacting with them. If I'm unsure how to act based on a culture-clash, I'll ask!

yeah i know what u mean man. I grew up in IL near st louis MO. I live right on the edge of east st louis which is pretty much like you described of camden. heck if ur white and you drive through there cops will stop you tell you to roll up your window and don't stop for red lights and get the hell outta there.

so in other words i'm white but i grew up in "black" culture. so i'm used to my buddies calling me "white boy" and teasing me and such. but when it comes down to insults and real problems most of the guys i get into that are black are acually act more "white" than i do!

one thing deeve, ppl are dumb there alot of ppl who likes to blame their culture their color and say they can't do anything cuz they are black, deaf or blind.

however there are ppl there that tries to make a difference and work hard at it. so, NEVER in a fight or name calling group ppl toghether cuz of thier race culture, or disabilty. just leave it at that.... it is the dumb one's fault they are destroying themselves.

you shoulda let the guy hit ya. you were careful and looked around, but the guy just blew past you. heck maybe there was an on coming car and you were waiting for it...

one thing sucks tho... it was a friggin CB!! good way to mess up one of the best hondas built!!!!!
