Anyways theyre good cars, but the trannies on them are made by ford, so they have a recall on them for 8 yrs/100,000 miles i think. Also i heard that on TLs after about 100,000 all the ball joints start to need changing depending on previous ownership.
False information. CL trannies are made by Honda.

Also, the 5 speed autos only had a problem for the first year or so, but there was a recall to replace an oil jet that may or may not have been complied with.

The 5 speed auto in these is a completely different 3 shaft design, that is not related to the 2 shaft design that had so many problems in the 1998-2002 Accord. As long as that oil jet was replaced early on, and the car has seen regular fluid changes, you should be just fine. If you want to for comfort's sake, purchase an extended warranty on it.

Also, the J32 is a wonderful engine. You need to drive one and see if it suits you , but I suspect it will.

        Damn good stuff.

        LOL @ Sams comment.

Thanks everyone, and im basically on par with whats been said.

I basically just wanted to see if it was worth getting and it seems to be...ive been reading up on it...i wanna go find one to test drive....

However like CPMike said, its not going to be cheap and i dont know if its the best move right now...and if i dont do it now i wont be able to probably untill im done with school but thats ok because i really wanna take care of my cb and see how far she takes me...i feel i owe it to her...ive taken such good care of her since ive owned her....i might as well...she never disappoints me really...just wish the ac was colder rofl...

Well as far as the TL, its nice as hell but i deff prefer the CL/TSX to the Tl...if i had the money i would probably spring for the TSX...i really like them...but thats out of my range right now...

So yea we will see and you know ill keep you guys updated!!

        Thanks for the responses!

I test drove a silver CL-S (automatic) and my GTP in the same day. Same price. I bought the Pontiac. I wasn't very impressed with the CL. The interior was uninspired, the engine was nice, but not really what I expected. The transmission was fairly unresponsive for something that should be sporty. The suspension was fairly harsh, but not as sporty as it could've been... more like no luxury, very little sport.

If it was a 6 speed, things may have been different... but the 6 speeds go for nearly $20,000 it seems! At least around here (the 2 I found).

I wasn't impressed. Not bad, and definitely more refined than the GTP... but bleh...

            Really?

Damn well id still like to test drive one to see how it suits me. Im sure the 6spds are dope....i havent been able to find any of those around here...just auto5spd and autos....and yea they arent cheap...if i were to do this id be trying to find a 2001 with around 70k miles for no more then 9k.

            The search continues lol.

How do you suppose that may have changed with time, considering how you like the GTP now? If the CL was like most Hondas it would grow on you with time.

Also, I can vouch for the fact that in most cases, the J series if quicker than it "feels." But to some extent, it is a 3300lb car that is not going to be as responsive as a CB7. It was designed to feel somewhat sporty, and luxurious at the time. I bet if you took it on some backroads, it wouldn't have been nearly as much of a handling turd as it felt like.

Plus, if he did get a six speed, and ever decided to supercharge it, they have been known to munch on C5's.

A 6 speed would be considerably more fun.

As it compares to the GTP... I do agree that the overall quality of the GTP is significantly worse. I expected that, though. The CL I looked at was fairly... used All 4 wheels were curbed. The GTP was cosmetically perfect.
Both cars had a rough ride. Both cars handled poorly... the CL DID handle fairly well, but the balls-out acceleration of the GTP was more fun. If I had to choose again? Still the GTP... at least over THAT CL-S. Maybe it wasn't performing up to snuff...
I did take it on back roads. Not spectacular.

If I could do it over again... Miata.

Im not a fan of the exterior styling of the CL's. IMO the TL looks better (even though Im not a 4 door guy.)

As previously stated those J32's are no joke, well the type s, especially with a few bolt ons.

If you buy the CL from an Acura dealership, then you will have warranty on the automatic tranny, I never heard anything wrong with the manual tranny though.

I would get the 2003 CL Type-S with the 6-speed transmission.

My buddy recently sold his 01 cl-s with about 100k, and when it sold it had it's 4th transmission. He bought it 3 years ago with 60k on it, and it was on it's 2nd transmission at the time. It was definitely a fun/fast car to drive though.

Lower ball joint issues, 10.4 hour 105k service/dual mass flywheel=short clutch life span/ if its auto, make sure the trans has been warrentied.

                              I keed, I keed.

Those CL/TL's do have some go im em. from the sound of things, if your gonna go MT, get it from the dealership, warrantied. If you dont go dealer, go AT. And i still, personally, like the TL over the CL. I dunno if its the sedan in me or what.

id rather take a 6spd anyday. then you can feel the full potential of the j32. i love the way the CL looks. very sexy but the way the TL looks i dont know. i guess its cuz if i go somewhere with people i can take the TL cuz of the 4dr. if u really dont like people in the back seat go for the CL. and like [cp]mike said it wont be cheaper. what if you had to change the brakes its going to be more expensive than a CB and then insurance comes into play cuz you will have to get it fully insured. think before you go ahead.
