I think its more about being upset at trends. Bandwagon jumping and such. Going for 100% jdm could be considered as overdoing it. But then its different from the rice phase because with jdm, who can tell the difference unless they're into that? The average person thinks my accord is bone stock.

I'd probably take someone from this site to know what's different, someone I'll probably rarely or never meet.

With rice, everyone knows somethings amiss. Primer gray, extravagant body kits, huge spoiler, loud nasty exhaust, etc.

But most auto enthusiasts wouldn't have had that much of a problem with it, but they realized its all cheaply made, and not actually functional. The body kits are sometimes just a flimsy plastic cover, and have no aerodynamic benefit. The spoilers were often non-functional. The exhaust didn't help performance, it was just loud and show-offy. *Note, not all products were so useless and cheaply made.*

But when it comes to jdm products I only get what I like, I'm not interested in the full jdm conversion. But to put on only a few items and be called rice is going too far. I get your point, and its a good point, but I think that you made a blanket statement thats unfair.

What you should be more upset at is the whole jumping on the new trend bandwagon thing. Instead of pointing at jdm items specifically.

on the stairs, she grabs my arm, says whats up,
where you been, is something wrong?

Of course, the true tuners who do go after those hard to find parts and wheels SHOULD get recognized. But of course, there are the half assers who paint their stock steelies red, slam it, throw on yellow fogs and roll around primered with their beginner driver badges or whatever. That hurts the "JDM" scene overall.

But what's so different about what was known as "rice" 4 years ago? The true people in the scene did customize their car to the fullest even years before then; but the few bad apples with crome wheels and cracked bodykits messed it up.

This JDM thing has been around for quite sometime; I mean I remember PrimoCB7, one of my favorite kitted accords, used to rock the Greddy Gracer lip back in '99. Its all about the current trends, and right now, 9 times out of 10, its the "jdm" look- even though it might even be close to what is truely JDM.

Just be yourself. Keep your own opinion about what you want your car to look like.

i know its an age old question,i still feel that i need an answer..thats all

hey after we discuss this lets get some latees and read some nice books.

jdm is different oem parts. if u can modify your car with oem parts why the hell not... and its not exactly a secret that the US gets shafted when it comes to factory options.... YES it is overboard. NO jdm parts arent at all a bad thing.

assumptions? lmao... ok excuse my use of the word "hate" its apparent that you have a dislike towards it. enough to make a damn thread about it.

people spend HUNDREDS on their cars to make them look better/wheels/drop/kits/lips/stickers/whatever and their cars still run like ass. its not fair to point at the people "with JDM parts". it happens to all diff sorts...

if you are so ANTI-JDM and ANTI-Accord, then why are we, on an Accord Forum, blessed with your constant negativity, bickering, and plain out bitching? I guess the question is why do you keep coming back?

Exactly. And some people are "purists" They want the real thing. Also some jdm items are hard to come by which makes them a part of there own. For example one thing I have always wanted was the spoon cluster they made for EK/DC2 chassis (not to install but for display). That thing was beautiful but way out of my price range plus really hard to find. Personally I wouldnt mind going into a jdm phase if I had the money but people have there styles. My style is basically characterized what I do on the car. People argue this and that rota is fake yes...I agree with them but not everyone in this world is a baller and can afford what some people can. They try to get by what they can get. But when it comes to people playing them off as JDM parts thats where it goes to hell. I am pretty sure most people that have cars that spent the money know what I am talking about. Stickydiljoe, Timmy0tool, blkexcoupe and those are the few that come to mind immediately. You dont just buy slips and call them spoons...They might look like it but they arent the same thing. But I like JDM it looks great, also I like kitted cars if done properly. Personally I have a wide view of cars either jdm or non. I like them all if done properly. Who cares if one is more jdm...Its not rice at all IMO. Car tuning culture has gone downhill with people calling each other whatever...you got a kit your riced, altezzas your riced, you got jdm your just spending money on pointless shit, calling other makes POS'...All these accusations have basically made me kind of sick of the import scene honestly. I dunno where this hate came from...We are just hating on my own kind literally. I have been blessed with seeing the import industry change from the late 80s till now. I have went through my phases but show respect to people that have good taste. At some time things get repetitive but you have to show love to those that have put time, money, sweat, tears to make their car standout. I prob went OT but this is how I feel.

                        i dont either.

some are spendy, but if people search hard enough you can find great deals. i see tons of people just buying the damn parts at RIDICULOUS prices.

i cant say that i havent spent hundreds on all my stuff, but 80% of the time its cuz i find good deals. then again i dont just spend hundreds on jdm parts, its engine parts, and other little things to make sure the car is in tip top shape. that always comes first.

why cant the import scene just get along! lol i see motorcycle people giving each other thumbs up just cuz and same with classic/muscle car peoples.

then we have the damn import scene that is just divided into little sub groups that hate on each other. shit ive been driving down the road before and i was givin the thumbs down by an integra owner. i waved.

its happened on more than one occassion. whatever. thats something i dont understand....

people USED to spend hundreds cuz it was rare.... people now spend hundreds and so fourth on lighting equipment simply because people will pay it.... most lighting equipment is oem.... OEM=QUALITY.... quality costs money.... its all relative just by looking at the quality of parts.... fake jdm ctr headlights are crappy quality and thats one of the things that i cant stand when u try and have ur car look "jdm" or more oem is what it really should be called its important to keep the quality of the oem parts.... most jdm wheels are forged and have to be shipped from overseas that answers that question right there.... forged wheels are superior to cast wheels thats why if u have ever looked at a car warranty its usually only a few sets of wheels that extended warranties will allow.... simply because they have been tested and hold up to everyday use..... the reason people hate on rota is because its completely unoriginal and they lack the forging process that goes into making a lot of the wheels they copy....

                                floored - 3 days.

Honestly, I don't get what the problem is. He only asked why everyone was into it, and I totally agree with his thinking... People will drop $400 for a JDM bumper that nobody but other JDM freaks (ie: people who probably also spent that same $400 for that same bumper) would even notice. It doesn't make much sense to me, either!

Although, I also can't understand why people would spend $5000 on a paintjob for their $2000 bodykit... slap on some $3500 20" chrome wheels, and put the whole thing on an airride kit... To me, that defeats the purpose of having a car! One stray rock that chips your paint, or one unseen pothole, and your whole plan is shot... unless you pay to fix it up perfect again. Not saying it's wrong... just that it's just a foreign concept to me!

Also, Joe never said "why do you CB7 guys like JDM so much"... he asked in general. He drives a Civic... probably the most notorious platform for JDM partwhores ever!

JDM is great. JDM is OEM... just stuff we don't have in the US. If it's worth it to you, good. Buy it. If not... then wait till it's cheaper. Just remember... whatever cool JDM parts you get, you're only as cool as the Japanese grandma that got the stuff stock on her car when she bought it new
