you're also in texas. i know texas is supposed to be "the south" but in the southeast USA (AL, MS, GA, TN, SC, NC) it's a lot different. racism is as much a part of everday life as it's ever been, heck, in alabama it's still illegal for black people to vote or for black and white kids to go to school together and in 2004, the courts UPHELD both of those laws. sure, nothing has come of it, but it could and it's odd that they didn't strike them or ammend them.

in the real south, interracial dating is still very taboo and although less and less people are talking about it out loud, behind closed doors they're as venomous as ever. families don't approve and disowning someone over it is still very common. it's not really getting better either. it never will. racism is here to stay, just look at how many people on this thread "would fuck her but not marry her".

Yeah, you're right on that, Texas is pretty much an exception until you get closer and closer to the Louisiana border. People in the South just aren't willing to change, and I doubt that they ever will. It's sad that it'll be that way, but family traditions and taboos are just too strong to break in that part of the U.S.

well, i think it's that they honestly think they're holding onto what makes "the south" the south, but in reality, most of the things associated with the confederacy are not good things and are embarrassing. sure, it took balls to stand up to "the usa" like they did, but it's not something to be proud of really. there are a lot of stupid people here who won't change due to stubbornness and religion plays a major role in keeping people from being free thinkers. i don't like "the south" as far as the people go. love the land and the south alabama beaches, but the people are embarrassing. like today, i went to lunch with my coworker and he is such a fucking redneck, shitty clothes because he doesn't care about his appearance in the least, he was so drugged up he forgot he had ordered about 5 minutes after he ordered, and he just stares at chicks WAY past that alarm that goes off with your internal clock that tells you to LOOK AWAY NOW.

it's like the people FROM here that LIVE here don't want better for themselves. they're stuck between being farmboys and city slickers or something, and that's stupid. adjust, adapt, accept, be happy.
