Well, I was hoping someone would kind of agree with me, lol, but thats not what i was after. Maybe im just learning a life lesson. I love my car, and when i camer upon the site, i loved it even more. i love the comradary[sp?] from the ppl here and i like the idea that if i have a question or wanna know how my car will look a certain way, theres a good chance that someone else has asked that question, or thier CB is, IMO, so cool looking that it gives me ideas.

Im not looking for a way out of my problems, its just that the other day i got curious as to how much ive put into my car. Including routine oil changes, etc. it totalled just under $3000. I paid $2200 for the car. The only aftermarket mods i have are exhaust, intake, amber corners, and a FU strut bar. I ve got neon but it was practiaclly free and ive painted a few things, but paints cheap.

I guess im really just afriad of saving a big wad for my list then something major happens. Last time i had $1k saved i ended up replacing TB/WP. Ive had the car just over 2 years and i have a feeling ive replaced just about everything, lol. So maybe this time around i can save w/o any major probs.

And thanks for kicking my butt and telling me what i wanted to hear.

I think i will stick with it, and hopefully, ill have the ride i want soon

I totally feel ya. However, my income is so yucky, it's hard to accomplish anything, esp. w/ school.

I really want to buy a mint condition 1996 Black Chevy Impala SS w/ under 10,000 miles; and throw about 10 grand into it to get it the way I want. But in due time with some saved cash ( told you I feel ya ). For now I'll just keep my daily driver w/ 98,xxx, and I just recently put about a grand of oem parts under the hood to make it for a while; while in school. So mechanically she is tip top.

My thing is, and im not like depriving myself of the things i want, but little things like ipods(weve recently been allowed to have them at work), alarm/keyless entry...a good, decent camera...those things are all a couple hundred dollars, and thats less money i have for my car. Luckily i live at home, but still.

you know my coworker was just saying that this morning to me... why dont you quit wasting you money on small things for your car and get something more worthwhile like an engine mod of some sort. well the guy loves american muscle so that's the reasoning behind his thinking.

It's a good question and it's a tough question. Ultimately you have to look at your car and the choices available, as well as your needs, finances, and willingness to work on your car yourself and have it down for a while.

From what I've learned, the best way to have a seriously modded car is to have a stock to lightly modded DD you can use all the time that you don't have to worry about curbing or getting stolen or w/e. Even if it's a total POS it's something you don't have to worry about. Plus then it won't look as bad because it's not your only car... it's strictly for modding, etc.

You get the comments about modding a car, however old it is, from everybody. I get it. I even get it from people who have older cars than I do....The thing you shouldn't let frustrate you is those comments. Although I am technically being a hypocrite in this because I kinda did/kinda still do get frustrated. It's a hit to your self esteem when you show somebody your car and they say "so it's just a(fill in car name here)".

I agree with Mike(AW) in that it is bad financially. If you love your car, then to you it's gonna be worth it. Go through all your options. You've already figured out how much you wanna put into it. But a this is a hobby and I don't doubt you love your car, think about the other things too(even things as simple as food, money wise).

In the end your gonna do what you want with your money, and whatever makes you happy is what you should do.

Damn this has turned into a big debate lol. Well heres my .02 on the whole matter. Yes its very nice having a new car. I recently just got a 01 jetta 1.8t to get around in after i sold my cb7. Which was good cuz i don't really have the urge to mod a VW lol. Especially since its stock and it still gives me problems. But ne way for me when it comes to modifying a car i would rather mod a older, simply b/c like everyone stated before its cheaper, easier to work on, and you pretty always lose money when u modify a car, its just a bad investment really.....But like i have in my sig. i am buyin another cb7 from a friend and selling my vw to get a 300zx which prolly won't stay stock for long lol. But for most of us we can't go without modifying somethin. So maybe if little problems are gonna bother you, might want to look into another car as a daily driver, that you pretty leave alone and just maintain. B/c i'm guessing you 6000 dollar build is going to be a full built motor and probably going to be a rough car to drive to and from work/school everyday. Just my suggestion.
