Mostly talking, texting, music and possibly internet. It's just that I've given her 2 razrs and both were almost new and they just fucked up. ( I hate razrs) and last christmas I told her I was going to get a really nice phone for her bday which is in august. Now shes using an olllldddschool cingular phone that I had laying around.. NO camera or bluetooth or anything lol
I've narrowed it down to those two choices so I just need some opinions. I'm running windows mobile and I haven't really had any major problems. What does the treo run? I know it uses real player and not windows media player.

importgsm.com has some (high prices, but with a lifetime warranty, they'll take care of you and you end up spending less after a year or two)
this is a forum for the various motorola "razr style" phones (the US version was shit, the rest of the world got some nice phones that aren't really razrs but they are similar and use the same basic software, they just have tons more capability)
http://www.motox.info/forumdisplay.php?f=19
you can buy other stuff there too. i've bought a couple of phones from guys on there and most are pretty decent, honest people. one guy even fronted me a phone and let me pay him $200 about 3 weeks later.....who the fuck does that.....and on the 7th day, deevergote rested and called his mom.

Ha thats pretty crazy about the guy sending you a phone and you paying him 3 weeks later
I'm just not much of moto fan and those V3X's are triband phones and I run on 850 in this area and those only run 900/1800/1900
We have looked around for phones and those are the only two we like (we being me and her of course) I just need to know how well the treo performs, any bugs or anything, same goes for the blackjack

nah, with cingular and tmobile, all of the european 900/1800/1900 phones will work. you see, the 850mhz is ACTUALLY a mixture of the 800 and 900mhz bands, so if a phone operates on either of those frequencies, it will work with a carrier that advertises 850mhz........if a US phone that works on 850mhz is taken to europe though, it won't pick up the 900mhz frequency.
but basically, 99% of the phones in the world will worke perfectly here. i've had over 30 non-american market phones and they've all worked perfectly with cingular and tmobile (there was no difference between the two companies as far as signal strength)
they basically use the same network and tmobile is officially a 1900mhz company but they use all the towers they can. they lease them.
the only difference i've seen is with locked phones. cingular phones do better inside buildings and tmobile phones do better further away from the towers. 1900mhz reaches farther but doesn't penetrate buildings as well, and 850 (800/900) doesn't reach as far but will penetrate a building like a 12" penis....and on the 7th day, deevergote rested and called his mom.

Originally posted by apuforyouHmm I've tried two tri-band phones in my area and I NEVER had signal, I was lucky if I got one or two bars. So since then I've stayed away from anything that doesn't run 850 because that what the cingular store in my city told me our towers use
carriers do whatever they have to do to make money. they may be running an all 800 network which makes their signal "not so great" anyway, literally forcing you to buy their locked phones. i've had no problems all over the southeast, from south florida to north carolina and west to texas.
cingular/at&t are pulling a lot of shit that is making customers angry lately.
if i had to guess, they are purposely using only the 800 towers so that you buy a cingular locked phone or you simply don't use them.
that's what i like about tmobile, they use their towers AND others so that their signal, overall, is the best. i've never had a problem with them. $8 unlimited internet access, i call my friends in europe a lot and it isn't costly, etc.
they may have certain ports locked and are simply waiting until a lot of customers call and complain, tmobile did that with the sidekick 1 and 2. a lot of features wouldn't work, and after enough bitching, people got what they wanted which was literally a flip of the switch for tmobile.
there are tons of european/asian phones that use 800/900/1800/1900 though, which SHOULD work with cingular no matter how dicky they're acting.....and on the 7th day, deevergote rested and called his mom.

ahhhh, look what i found out:
***The only market in Southern California that is not a Cellular System A is Imperial Valley. In the LA market Cingular is getting everyone off of the Orange (1900 MHz) network to the Blue (850 MHz). Blue was not designed for so many callers so it has overloads problems and Cingular is adding Blue towers left and right to fix the problem. Once T-Mobile buys the Orange PCS towers from Cingular, Cingular can then use the Orange airwaves (1900 MHz) on Blue towers once they add PCS panels to them. That should end alot of overloads on the network.
Also, Cingular Requires all GSM phones to do 850 and 1900 MHz for them to be activated today on their network
If the phone does not do 850 it was probably activated 3 or more years ago****
so they aren't working for you because cingular doesn't want them to lol. that's so shitty. this was late 2006 so it may be another year before cingular phones in the west/southwest are operating on something besides 850mhz again. they'll be leasing tmobile's 1900 band and tmobile will still be using their new and improved 850mhz band, so basically. tmobile will be better off but the users aren't having to suffer until then, and cingular will be better off but until then, it's their shit or nothing.
we've never had an issue of that magnitude in this area. cingular has went downhill ever since the at&t merger. at&t is bad news.....and on the 7th day, deevergote rested and called his mom.

i forgot all about the a1200...it will work on the 850mhz band and meets the criteria for activation on cingular in your area.
you can get your girl this http://www.importgsm.com/product.php...9&cat=0&page=1
it's basically the updated version of my phone and is a VERY VERY capable phone. you can read a lot about it at motorolafans.com in the appropriate forum (called the motorola a1200 or "ming")
it has a very good camera too (2mp, same as on the v3x, but it's more capable than a lot of 3mp cameraphones)
touchscreen, clamshell design, tough as nails, tons of programs.
you won't find a better new phone for $300
the 1gb and 2gb mini-SD (transflash) memory cards work with it too. a guy is working on a program so that the 8gb cards will work, and his problem doesn't seem to difficult to overcome so i'm sure he'll get it up and running. it's a linux phone but will hook up to your windows computer just fine. it's really easy to play around with.Last edited by rickyduckworth; 07-21-2007, 06:40 PM.....and on the 7th day, deevergote rested and called his mom.

I would love to have cheaper plans but cingular has pretty good phones and service most of the time plus I just renewed my plan. I want an iphone lol. But its okay my pocket pc will be fine... for now
Okay but seriously, do you/everyone think the Palm Treo 650 is a good phone for just normal people, its affordable, touchscreen, SD slot.
EDIT: Two of my friends have the a1200 and its pretty nifty, however they can't receive picture messages because of it being unlocked. something about their internet doesn't work right, but I would get it but she doesn't want it because our friends already have them. Yes I know the 650 isn't exactly a new phone but none of my close friends have them lolLast edited by apuforyou; 07-21-2007, 06:42 PM.
