I had a 90 EX 2dr auto and now I have a 90 LX 2dr 5speed, both car have about the same mods, nothing major, I/H/E
My friend has a 2001 TL type S (auto)
With my old car racing from a stop he always jumped and continued pulling, I would never gain any.
This past weekend we raced from a stop with my new car, I jump and stayed infront until i was shifting into third gear then he passed and continued pulling, He said that it was because of his traction control but still with my automatic i could never do that.
I havent mastered the downshifting so I can't give a fair judgement on "highway racing"
first off, there isnt a 2001 tl-s, it would have to be an 02/03. and there is no way you would even come close to beating it. the only challenge ive ever had in my tl was with my old accord.

I STILL GOT THOSE VIDEOS!!! haha. The accord inched it out by a bit. It was close.

I made a mistake, his car is an 03. I never claimed to beat him, All I was saying is that in the stick accord I jumped on him and he didn't/couldn't pass me till I was shifting into third. He said his traction control messed him up.
In my auto accord I never jumped on him and never got infront of him.
What do you want me to say, Im lying?
No-one is saying that the TL-S is slow, I love those cars and was seriously considering buying one, till I learned that they only came tip-tronic. I always had a weak spot in me for a TL dropped with the factory lip-kit.
Rev limit? Tried downshifting to redline? This is where the TCU comes into play. If it senses your out of gear when your "downshifting" in the auto it will not downshift to that gear until that speed is reached to prevent you from blowing up your motor. Up shifting you can bring past redline down shifting is a diff story. For example back in my ricer daays in my 90 EX i was racing a sentra and a curb was comin up. I accidentally threw it in d2 but the car went into d3 instead. The TCU sees that the speed does not match the rpm where its programmed (guess thats how you can explain it) so it goes to d3 to slow down the car then it will go into d2. So technically you cant really mess anything up downshifting other than the internals of an auto trans.
Which is why i let the TCU do all the work.
Either way, the Auto was never made to be fucked with...it was to be put in Drive and driven.
Sure you could, at the expense of your transmission.
