    Im done.

    Pictures on Page 3

With the Ranger that is, I had one hell of a day today, I've been trying to get rid of my truck for the last month or so.

The truck itself has been in my family for 12 years, aside from a motor swap done over a year ago, it's been running great, I did my mods, had fun with it in the mud last October and goofed off with it back at the Feburary meet.

Everything seemed to be ok until this morning when I went down to get an oil change.

Turns out my oil pan is rusted. I went down to look at it and the lube tech didn't want to risk removing the drain plug because he told me that around it the metal is a bit soft, and by removing it, it would pose a bigger problem down the line.

So I asked how I would remove the oil pan and replace it, now the pan itself brand new costs a mere $54.49 from a local autoparts store here.

HOWEVER the labor to replace it? A staggering $1,201.45 according to my mechanic I go too for work on the Civic, he did the exact same job two years ago on a Mazda B3000 took him 3 and a half days with about 19 hours in total man hours.

    How did he do it?

In a Ranger/B-Series the engine has to be removed (not partially but completely) because of the frame especially on a 4WD, the cross member for the front half of the 4WD system runs directly underneath the oil pan and not to mention at least 3 or 4 of the 16 oil pan bolts are located where the transmission meets the engine.

I got a qoute of $800 from the parts store that I went too and they told me it would take approximately 12 hours to do the job.

I originally wanted $3,000 flat for this truck but I may end up selling it for $2,500.

Its just a big fucking headache right now and its rather depressing as well, $2,200 dollars was sunk in it just last year for the low mileage motor...and now I give up on dumping another $1,200 in in labor just to have a $54 oil pan put on.

I just felt like ranting. I love my truck but I can't deal with this latest issue.

You know you want to come back to the CB7 world, Henry... you didn't want to get rid of your CB7 in the first place! For the price of the repair, you could find a half-decent CB7. If you can sell the truck for $2500, you can find a GOOD CB7.

Im not going to lie Mike, I do want to come back but you know how it is its hard to find a good 4th gen in Northeast, and Im looking as far south as where your located

But yeah I'll find something if not a Honda I know its gonna be of Japanese descent.

I like my truck but Im not dumping 1200 for an oil pan to replaced.

                  Ouch that sucks.

That is one of the downsides to a longitudinally mounted engine in many cases.

Being pressed for real estate right there, they manage to run all kinds of stuff right under there, especially on trucks that need extra frame support, skidplates, axles, suspension reinforcements etc.

I am sure you will get it worked out.

Was it not rusted when you put the engine in?

In the Northeast, EVERYTHING rusts... It's sad.

Don't search South, search West... well, and South Not ALL CB7s have rust though, not even in the Northeast. For $3000 or so, you could probably pick up a clean one.

Ive looked down there as well, I had one in mind about a month or two ago but I think its already been sold.

TurboMaxx yeah I've seen that green one before as well.

Scott, I think it may have been transfered from my old motor to this new one not sure because while it was in Mass getting fixed I was home here in New Hampshire at the time (it broke on me when I was there for about 2 months).

But yes it really sucks, and if I were to do it myself, it would probably take alot longer and I for one Im not going to tear into the truck my patience has worn thin on it.

So Im cleaning it up as well speak and getting it ready for the weekend.

I understand. Definitely not the time to attack it then.

I was just wondering if it actually rusted that fast or what. I have seen them do that, when there wasn't really even any surface rust...so I was just curious.

I thought maybe it was like this evil monster rust that just snuck up in the night and had your oil pan for breakfast.

Too bad they use salt. If I end up in that region, I will defintely be picking up a beater.

Also, if you want a CB that bad, maybe you should consider the west. I know it would be expensive to travel, but it would certainly be cheaper than fixing one with rust already on it.

Also, maybe you should just get something newer.

Yeah well to be honest a CB wasnt going to be my next ride after the truck, I wouldnt a 5th Gen although those bastards are a bit more expensive and I was also looking at a Civic due in part to my gfs car which Ive really gotten used to.

She averages a good 25 to sometimes 30 mph just from driving city and highway alone, and its something Im also looking for.

                              :edit:

Id get something new but my credit isnt looking to good right about now.
