let her get that other car. when it breaks down and she askin you for a ride tell her no. let her have her dad take her. she'll learn. lol

then when she gets tired of her dad driving her everywhere then she listen to you next time. unless shes like 16 and it takes a couple of thousand time for her to get the point that you know about cars.

The guy wants $3200 (reasonable...it's in awesome shape). But nooooo, she want's to get a previously wrecked 1997 Buick LeSabre for $2900. Why? Because her dad thinks I know nothing about cars and thinks that I am in a competition with him to get her to buy the Accord. And of course, daddy's little girl does exactly what he wants, no matter what, because I apparently know nothing about cars... It's driving me nuts. Her dad already made a mistake with her last car ($5000 for a 1994 Ford Taurus...wtf?), and the transmission went out within 2 months, so that brings the bill to $7500. That she has to pay...for her dads choice. I just want her to get a reliable used car, and from my knowledge, GM 3.8L V6's aren't exactly the pinnacle of reliability. The F22 IS. I just don't want her to walk into a mistake again...but she won't listen. BLARGH!
Actually, the GM 3800 is one of the best V6s they ever made...

However, the previously wrecked status should make that car a no-go regardless... Funny how her dad thinks YOU know nothing about cars, and he buys crap. I could've told him that the early-90s Taurus had transmission problems!

If she doesn't get that CB7, YOU should find a way to get it! It sounds like an amazing find! Buy it, and sell it to her when the Buick starts having trouble.

Why force her to listen if she still does what her father says.

Seems in a marriage you'd want complete control over the woman. Grow some balls and deal with it like a man.

          My thoughts exactly....

They used that 3.8 in just about every car they could find. Awesome torque, and when force induction was added, the results are devastating.

          Grand National.....wow. Turbo V6...
GTP (Deevs ride)...Supercharged with minor mods make over 300 whp EASY!.

Plus they are ultra reliable, get excellent gas mileage on the highway, and have gobs of torque.

The F22 is nice and torquey, but try driving through the rockies and you'll be sorry.

            x2, deev and vero.

The GM 3.8L V6 is an excellent engine, just the transmissions suck. My parents had an '85 Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight with the 3.8L V6 and it was a good, powerful, reliable engine. The thing that sucked about the car was the transmission died. Then my neighbors had an '87 or '88 Oldsmobile. Again, great engine, dead transmission.

But I agree with everybody else in here, I just don't want to...

Let her do what she wants, that way when something goes wrong you can tell her and her dad, "I told ya so..."

I'm only worried about my transmission... I drive a LOT, for long periods of time... that can't be good for it!

And Henry... normally that would bother me... but you DO have a point!

However, to argue that point... She should have some faith in her boyfriend as well. Or, even better, think for herself and stop letting the men in her life dictate what she should do! One is telling her to get a 15 year old car that he is obviously biased towards... the other is pushing for a newer car (still 10 years old) that has sustained damage.

WE believe CB7s to be reliable... and they are. Though part of our beliefs are based in the fact that we feel comfortable fixing things that other people may view as major problems (bad axle... cake for us... $350 at a shop for someone who doesn't know any better). We also know somewhat how to diagnose a problem before it causes any major issues. Going back to that same axle... clicking? Bad. Change it. We know that. Someone who doesn't know any better may just say "oh, the old car is making a new noise... oh well"... Next thing you know, the axle snaps at the dry joint and the car hits a wall.

I'd still have to stand behind the CB7, largely based on the damage the Buick has sustained. Even if it was minor, damage is damage. Not to mention, gas isn't cheap... and the 3800 drinks quite a bit more than the F22 (I'm speaking from experience! 25mpg at best... and that's driving like I'm afraid of the throttle!)

^ The wonderful thing about most Honda's, is you can still drive the piss out of them and they get good milage.

My Nissan, well. She likes fuel. $50 to fill up, and usually 250 kilometers later its allll gone.

Wow... It's not like I'm trying to control her, I'm just looking out for her. I just wanted her to get a reliable car. Mostly, it irks me that her dad thinks I know absolutely nothing. He said exactly this, "He's a young male, they think they know things they don't..."

And in addition, you have NO idea what I would be like in a marriage, unless you somehow know my exact personality and up bringing for some odd reason.
As it is, she is an amazing girl, and I love her to death, but I guess you can't have your cake (her) and eat it too. No innuendo intended.

Oh, and she bought the Buick. Already she has to replace the serpentine belt.

something tells me a 2.2L honda with a standard will be *much* better on gas than some GM v6 with an automatic... and lets not even get into dependability. but perhaps after owning a buick she might learn a few things about what she really wants in a car.

Id let the girl do whatever and if she screws up its her fault not yours. remember that.

Yeah you love the girl to death but if her parents still want her to do as they say, you cant really tell her to do the other.

Kinda disrespectful if you ask me.

Well, I wasn't forcing her or anything, just suggesting it might be a better idea. Anyways, she got the LeSabre...it's a nice car, I just hope it lasts.

It won't last (esp. transmission). You should buy that other Accord...from what's you're saying she'll need it sooner or later anyway.
