    Live ATC

Here is something pretty cool that would probably appeal to those who like scanners, or listening to ATC.

    http://www.liveatc.net/feedindex.php

You can select the airport by class of airspace.

For those of you unfamiliar with that:

Class B would be your busiest airports

Class C is your medium airports

and then Class D would be your smaller (but still busy) airports that typically have more light plane activity than anything.

Center is the enroute air traffic control system

You can click on the respective category that you want, and then every airport in that category is listed.

It is pretty cool to listen to. If you have any questions, of course you can ask me.

It is simple to use, it will just stream through your MP3 software, which in most cases is probably windows media player.

          LOL!

Acutally they didn't. Class A is the "Flight levels", which are 18,000 up to 60,000 feet.

The flight levels are any altitude above 18,000' MSL. So basically anything from FL180 to FL600 is Class A.

When you hear them report "United XXXX with you at Flight Level 290", you know that they are at 29,000 feet.

If they report "United XXXX with you at 16 thousand", then you know they are 16,000.

That is why there are two different ways they report it.

Class A airspace is covered by the centers, which are all listed with the Class D airports, well at least the ones that have it available.

There is Class E and G as well. At one time there was Class F, but they got rid of it.

Yes, the rules are different for each class of airspace, and yes I have to know what they all are.

Here is a little trick if you want to know what direction they are heading, while listening to Center.

Eastbound flights travel travel at odd thousand altitudes, and westbound flights travel at even thousand altitudes, so if someone reports at FL 360, they are travelling westbound.

You will also hear the smaller planes below 18,000 report at odd or even altitudes + 500'. The odds are still east and the evens are still west, but if they have an extra 500' in there, that means that they are flying under a different set of rules than the guys at regular 1,000 intervals.

You have to have an instrument rating in order to fly at altitudes of 1,000 feet, but you don't in order to fly at altitudes of 1,000' + 500.

It helps seperate the different types of traffic.

Also, if you go under Class D, and then search for KPRC, Prescott AZ, you will hear all of our airplanes.

Anything with the "Riddle" or "Eagle" callsign is us.

It is usually busiest during the day, although right now, they aren't flying because of high winds.

            Just FYI.
