I'm actually not bashing anyone's savior... I'm simply making light of the fact that our holiday (yes, I'm a Christian too) is based on non-Christian beliefs.

The majority of the imagery behind the Easter holiday is rooted in Pagan beliefs. The name Easter itself is even based off of a pagan goddess.

You can't call someone a *** because it is a direct insult. I can say something about Easter, simply because I'm not making fun of the religion or the important figures... unless you worship some bunny that shits colored eggs. In that case, I'm sorry... I really can't help you.

PLEASE read my words before you decide to blow things out of proportion. I don't say much that I don't put considerable thought into. If it seems offensive, you're probably taking it the wrong way. If it IS offensive, talk to me about it... I'm not perfect.

yeah, im christian, and while i dont like the what was said up there about the joke of how we got easter, deev is right, people dont celebrate easter because of god anymore. just like christmas is all about santa claus. not jesus being born.

but thats how it goes i guess.

what deev said is not a joke, its fact. (aside from the bunny and colored egg stuff), easter is based on Pagen rituals, like it or not.

It's not really a joke... well, I was making light of the facts... but the Easter imagery is NOT Christian based. The ONLY Christian influences that are celebrated at Easter are the ressurection of Christ, and perhaps the Palm leaves.

Everything else is taken from the Pagan celebrations of Spring and fertility. Eggs = fertility. Bunnies and chicks = new life. Flowers = new life. Candy = corporate greed.

I'm sorry, I don't mean to offend. I figured it was a well known fact (nobody questioned why chocolate and bunnies were associated with Christ?) The Pagan background to the most important holiday in the Christian religions strikes me as funny... the very people the Christians sought to educate or erradicate at times seem to have more of an influence of the American Christian celebration of Easter than the Christian religion itself!

Pagan holidays and practices were used as templates for the Christian holidays, so it would make for an easier conversion. "see, same days! same stuff! Better God!" Primitive people were easily swayed.
