It's funny... I can't win either way
I ban the scammers, they come back, stay under the radar, and scam again.
I remove myself from the dealings and tell the buyers that they should've been careful, and suddenly I'm siding with the scammers.
I do the ONLY thing in my power to prevent scamming, and I piss off everyone else (though I have to admit, I've gotten a LOT more support from you guys for this than I expected!)
growguy, that system sounds great. I don't think it would work well here, though. VERY close in the annoyance level to the "I got scammed" stuff are the "why can't I post elsewhere" stuff... I get PMs about that constantly, at least 4-5 a week lately. People just wouldn't get it. People who know enough about electronics are probably smart enough to understand your site. You don't have to be too bright to own a CB7!
I have some ideas I'm tossing around in my head. I'll see what I can do. They may be back, at least in some form.
Any dealings that are currently underway may continue via PM. I just don't want to hear any drama about it!

Deev,
While I'm sorry to see the classifieds go, I totally understand your motivation for doing so. I'm sure that you moreso than anyone else is aware of my dealings with Rich(UK - Accord). It's people like him and myself that have probably contributed to the locking of the classifieds, but I agree 100% with what you're doing. As long as there are classifieds there will be scammers. I did business on this site for over a year before I was scammed by Rich, and never would have bought from him other than all the positive feedback I got from everyone regarding him. All that has since disappeared, and I'm still out.
I will not accept that he scammed me and if I have to ride his ass for the next 5 years I will do so, but situations like this mulitiplied over an entire board with you as the admin. I can see where you would get fed up. While it's disappointing that it happened I know why you've done it. I can honestly say there's been a ton of stuff I would've bought off here, but haven't done so because I'm cautious of getting railed again. There are plenty of other places to buy and sell out there, and I can say firsthand that if you choose that route, BUYER BEWARE. You're all big boys and girls now, as am I, and mommy or daddy, nor Deev, is going to help you get your money back when the big bad scammer takes it. Consider it a life lesson learned the hard way.i roll my wagon slo, f22b style...

ok thanks man, sorry it has to be this way. so there is a chance of us getting the classified forums back then?"This truck is 100% sh*ts and giggles."

Its pretty much the consumers responsibility to do their own research on a seller before making a purchase....I mean you do that when you go to make a purchase at any store etc. The people that get in trouble are the ones that send money orders instead of using a verified paying system. And for those that argue paypal is bad....most of that happens when people send off money...the seller ships their items to the buyer and then the buyer takes back the money....so the seller is scammed. Best way around this is to transfer the money into your bank when paid....then send the item and make that clear to the buyers. And only buy/sell to verified people. No excuses. If it sounds to good to be true then it most likely is.
Again there are plenty good sellers on the site....many have ebay accounts too and many vouches and positive feedback. You take a chance on any transaction online. If people aren't careful then what can you do? Most people should know not to deal with new people on the site anyways and its somewhat easy to fish out the idiots for the real deal. Again its a chance.
Only thing I can think of is re-open the classifieds...anyone that wants to use/buy/sell on there must read an agreement and accept the terms with a check mark (something like before you download a program) that allows that user to be in there. (ex: site owner holds no responsibility for any transactions conducted....that is the sole responsibility of the buyer/sellers.....any scamming or attempt therefore will result in permanent ban of user id and any ip address being used...if business transaction cannot be resolved.)
*note: Other sites have you accept an agreement thing also....the user assigns themself to be able to view the classifieds section after doing so....but before the user is able to buy/sell/view the classifieds it is reviewed buy administrators/moderators and then that user is then given access when their request to view/sell/buy is accepted by the admin/mods.*Last edited by accord4thgen; 04-07-2007, 01:28 PM.無限WESTCOAST FUKINWITCHU ACCORD4THGEN 1990 CB7 Coupe無限

*L* it was a sucky forsale section anyway all anyone ever sold in their was old accord parts
No seriously I'm very carefull about what I buy from a forum. And to be honest the classifieds in here just sent up a red flag to me. Most of the people in there had Low post counts and were I don't know it always just felt wrong...*L* one time when I first signed up I tried to buy a clutch from Xwade and he would never reply to my pm's
But he seems ok to buy from.
If you think about it taking a nice break from the classified would probably help a good percentage of the problems. And honestly I always Ebay my stuff I don't need anymore. I don't try to sell things like a old battery tray or an ac mounting bracket either. Make sure what your selling is something someone would actually want and it'll sell in a few days offer a fair buy it now and my things never last more then a few days. Alse make sure to make it immediate payment required. Ive had a few people do the buy it know and pay two weeks later.

hey deev,
heres an idea. i agree with what you did about the classified thing. if people keep complaining about getting scammed and they dont do anything about it then thats their fault. not yours. you warned them and they didnt listen. point blank.
one i dea i have tho is for the people who have vouches for more than like 2 or 3 members up here should be able to post stuff up for sale. i know it may not seem fair to other people who are trying to sale stuff that havent before. but hey they can sale stuff to people localy and get vouces that way. then they'll be able to sale up here.
another way is to have the post count for the CLASSIFIEDS section be up near the 100s. then you wont have newbies or scammers trying to come in and be like: "i got 30 post. i can just post up useless crap until then." and then even AFTER they get their 100 psot they have to get permission from you to post in the classified section. it would help from people getting scammed b/c youll know the person and that they've dont something then post stupids stuff in the off topic section or on their members ride thread.
just my thoughts. but i do agree with what you did man. its the only way people will learn.
