I have yet to understand our purpose over there... They don't want us there, we don't want to be there... yet for some reason, we're there. There IS no war in Iraq. We defeated the dictator, put a new government in place, and now we're still occupying the country. The government we put in place should have control over the Iraqi military. Any rebel groups should be THEIR problem.
Honestly, from what I can gather, the strongest leadership presence in Iraq is NOT the government we put in place. The middle-eastern society is not going to take kindly to the Americanization of their nation (how much do you want to bet there are more McDonlads and KFCs in Iraq than there were 3 years ago?)
I'm not a politican. I'm not a military strategist. I barely watch the news. That makes my opinion quite uneducated. However, there are probably more people like me in this country than not. For a cause that our friends and family are dying for, I think EVERYBODY should understand the true reasons for it!
Bush IS a moron, but I don't think he really impacts anything. He's a figrehead. Even moreso than presidents before him. The man was put in power because he's likable. He's more like Joe American than most, and people accept that. They think he is one of them, and they are right. Just like them, good ol' W is probably just as much in the dark about what's really going on. (conspiracy theory, I know... I can't claim any facts behind it, other than the fact that this man IS a moron, and those behind him seem significantly smarter... and decidedly more sneaky)

Originally posted by According2AaronProbably the most intellectual-sounding statement against Bush I've ever read. Good job, Mike.
Someone could tell me that Bush is doing a great job, and give me reasons for it, and they'd probably be right. Likewise, someone could do the same in telling me how horrible he is (I've seen more of that). Regardless, I've seen very few people look at everything with little or no bias.
The actions of the US are rediculous, though. Regardless of who issues the orders. We're seen as pompous busybody bullies by most countries. As a whole, we are undereducated, overfed, overpaid, and far too arrogant.
To bring it home to a level that applies directly to us: You know the people who have put a LOT of effort into their cars here? The people that seem to always help, but often be rather snippy at the questions that have already been answered numerous times? Those people are like the rest of the world. The people who want everything cheap, easy, and NOW... the people that everyone rolls their eyes at... The way we see those people is the way the rest of the world views America.
Sadly, to a point, they're right. Hell, I've been sitting on my computer eating Doritos for the past 4 hours. Spent most of the time watching anime that someone else translated for me (because I'm too lazy to bother trying to learn Japanese, even though I have a ton of "learn Japanese" stuff downloaded for free). I've done nothing productive.

i suppose it is worth mentioning that today was the bloodiest day of 2007 (so far) for iraqi citizens.
