Interesting thread. My taste in metal is largely what you guys would consider soft. Favorites are As I Lay Dying (some old, all the new), All That Remains (all of it), Pantera, Five Finger Death Punch, Trivium, and Bullet for My Valentine's older stuff (still like them, despite becoming annoyingly mainstream and cliche). The hardest it gets is Suicide Silence and Bring Me the Horizon's "Count Your Blessings." I love heavy instrumentals but prefer to be able to understand the singer. Whatever your opinions of them, I think Godsmack, Disturbed, Slipknot, etc are great bands. IMO, no Metallica album was a disappointment.

My iPod also includes old-school Ice Cube, a decent amount of '90s punk/ska, as well as a band so un-metal as New Found Glory. And Less Than Jake's endless covers of show tunes and Grease songs: epic... I'm no metalhead.

i sort of stop listening whenever the vocals sound like that.. just sounds so generic.

edit: i should clarify by saying there are a lot of great metal instrumentalists..just not many good vocalists.

PTH may not be my favorite band, but it's one of the best shows I've ever been to.
